The last time we got to see each other was Thanksgiving, and now it looks like due to time and money constraints we wont be able to see each other again before we go on our missions. That means more than 2 and a half years without seeing each other and I’m feeling lonely right now. [Frown]

[Frown] How sad. I remember being in a long-distance relationship. It's hard. We got to the point where we pretty much either had to break up, or get married.

But while you're on your missions, while I'm sure you'll write if you have time, and occasionally see something that makes you think of the other, you'll both be so caught up in the Lord's work, I doubt you'll have time to be sad. It will go by so fast, you won't notice it as much as if you had to spend that much time apart while home.

Yeah, if you are both going to serve missions while dating, it has got to be easier to do the missions simultaneously. I know of couples who did one after the other, and I imagine that's got to be harder.

We decided together between mission and marriage and both felt impeled to serve, and it will get easier of course when we're both in the field so really I should shut-up and stop whinning, but I'm lonely.

I'd contribute too.

You two are amazing together. I think you will do just fine, but I know how painful it is to be separated for even a short stretch like a month.

Someone bump this thread with instructions if we're seriously going to take up a collection.

So Hobbes.... enough with the waterworks, when do you want to go to Montana? Or the other way around? [Wink]

[Smile]

I don't think I can travel at all to be honest. Hmmm...

I'm afraid last time I missed school to see Annie I dropped a letter grade in at least one of my classes. When I get home my parents would probably kill me (and rightfully so) if I didn't spend that time with them before leaving.

Now I suppose I could make a detour when flying home after the school year (May 10 or 11), but that would mean a flight in from Indiana to Montana, and then from Montana to Colorado, and I wouldn't know how to do that besides two one-ways, which would be much more expensive. If Annie is available any time (which she isn't really but I guess doesn't have any specific scheduled black-out dates either) then there are three options I guess. Spring Break (March 13 to 20th), after school, and some other time (the first two would be to Colorado, the other to Indiana). The problem with after the school year is I'm getting my wisdom teeth out, I think on the 11th, and would have to be back for that if I was going to see Annie and she would probably want to come after that. Though I guess that is less of a problem since I have until June I guess.

If she were to come to Indiana, well then I would still have to go to school, but ummm, other than that, I don't have any limits really. Though the last week (First week in May) might be a bad idea since I really should be studying.

So you're flying to Colorado for Spring Break, and leave for your mission in June? Edit: And will be home after school May 10thish.

Annie, weigh in on your preferences, please.

Also, what cities are we talking for airports? We'll need to know what airports you'd be flying in/out of to figure out how much money we need to come up with. [Smile]

Yes, I'm going home for Spring Break (Colorado), and right after school, the tickets for the former have been bought but not the latter.

To Indiana: Indy Airport
To Colorado: DIA
To Montana: Missoula.

It's true I don't have enough money for a full, round-trip plane ticket but I can still put in a significant amount...

What about Annie coming to Colorado on your spring break, is that an option?

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

A quick search without putting too much effort into it shows a ticket price of $387 to get Annie to CO, either for Spring Break or in mid-May, doesn't seem to make a difference.

Steve,

A&H are the quintessential Hatrack couple. Young, smart, cute, talented, LDS, and getting ready to go off on their separate 2 year mission trips.

We fully expect that when they return they will get married on the way home from the airport and start having Hobbeslets and Annielets as soon as possible. Or else!

Many of us got to meet them in person over the years. Most recently (I think) at KamaCon where everyone was into Annie's pants.

This all should've been covered on the test, come to think of it. At least the Annie's pants part.

Colorado and Montana are, like, both squareish states with nothing in them, right? Which means they're close to each other. Would Greyhound be acceptable?

Spring Break is probably no good. My mom has spring break at the same time and might have to do some traveling and I'm her primary babysitter.

May sounds much better, and I'm more likely to be able to take work off by then.

And Narnia - no, I haven't. I'm still working on trying to pay off old bills and get my teeth fixed before I can go. Hopefully (hopefully, hopefully) I'll be able to leave in June.

She said she could do it in May. That's closer to when they leave, anyway, so each chunk of away-time would be closer to even. (Still not close, I grant you, but since the prices are about the same I don't think it matters.)

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Holy... Greyhound is 21 hours 45 minutes, but the fare is $119 standard or $59 7 day advance. Annie, if you want to go in May and don't mind spending a day on the bus each way, we've got more than that in pledges now. (I've done OK to MN on greyhound many times... headphones and a book are required, but other than that it's fine.)

I've talked it over with Annie, niether of us are entirley comfortable with the Greyhound, 21 hours for what amounts to a 12 hour drive. Annie has had some bad (and recent experiences) on trips like this and we would both like to stear clear of this option if we can. Though since we're relying pretty much entirley on the charity of Hatrack it not really our place to call this. [Smile]

Like I said, if everyone contributes who has said they will, and you get me dates so I can start watching fares, it should be do-able. [Smile]

Posted by Leonide (Member # 4157) on :

Is there anyway to nail down a date and the airfare before the rest of us start contributing? That way you could give us a goal to reach and once we reach it, we can stop -- knowing Hatrackers, I foresee a lot of us giving more than necessary and I'm certain Hobbes and Annie don't want to issue a refund of unused monies. [Wink]

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

I looked at fares going out a couple months, and they were all pretty reliably at $387. Now, there could be a fare change or a price war, but I think if we aim for $400 (tax) we'll be safe. I don't know that we'll get there, but we should be able to get it into the realm of affordability for them.

Aslo, kq, how about just sending Annie the money and letting her buy the ticket when it gets down to it? It seems kinda awkward to have someone else making her travel arrangements, and I think it's a pretty safe bet that the money will go to it's intended purpose. [Wink]

Oops, just saw all this.I'm in! I have to send a check, though, as I am recently banished from my dear husband's PayPal account.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

That's what I was planning on; I was just going to notify them of cheaper fares so we could, as was said, stop before we double what we need to give them. (Not that they can't use it, I'm sure.)

Fares tend to go down about a month before you travel, so if we're talking the beginning of May, it would affect our deadline differently than if we're talking later or earlier.

Yes, I do plan to let Annie make her own travel arrangements. [Smile]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Hobbes and Annie definitely deserve it. (Oh, and if this happens in May I totally think we should have a Colorado mini-get-together just so I can hang out with you two cool cats. [Big Grin] )

It would be great if you guys used this money to see each other. But if the timing doesn't work out for you please do not feel pressured to meet for fear of letting us down.

I just want to say that Beren does not speak for me on this issue. If I were to contribute money to this fund, it would be for the sole and exclusive purpose of arranging a reunion, not for use as discretionary funds. [Smile]

Agreed; although if the fund goes over, I'm fine with any excess going to help Annie's mission fund, or something like that. [Smile]

I've got a few more payments pending; I'll notify you all when they go through. [Smile]

Frank was logged on my computer the other day. I keep forgetting to check and make sure it is me that is logged in. I swear! I've lied too many times and I've learned my lesson but I'm not lying about this! [Mad]

Tom- Why should I appoligize for telling the truth! I'm not Frank! Like I said he was logged on my computer! [Mad]

Yes. Of course. *checks little box*

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

But you've posted as you today, Steve. So if Frank was on your computer the other day, you would have had to log him out to post as you, and then how did he get back in again?

The thing is, if you're going to lie, you should at least make it believable. Like the insane asylum thing... You told us you were 15 and had been in an asylum for 12 years. We can do math. Nobody believed you were committed at the age of 3 and have been there ever since.

I'm not saying this because I don't like you or I want you to go away. I'm saying it because I want you to stay, and you're just hurting yourself with this sort of thing. It will get to the point where everyone will just sit and roll their eyes at everything you say except for fluff. And that's no fun.

I have a lot of patience, but don't insult my intellegence. That's all I'm going to say on the matter.

OMG!!!! I'M SERIOUS!!!! I'M NOT FRANK!!! HE WAS OVER AT MY HOUSE TODAY AFTER SCHOOL AND LOGGED ON FOR A LITTLE BIT AND FORGOT TO LOG OFF!! SO WHEN I LOGGED ON THE WEBSITE AUTOMATICALLY LOGGED ME IN AS HIM!!!! I'M NOT FRANK!!! I SWEAR!!! [Mad] [Mad] [Mad] [Mad] [Mad] [Mad] [Mad] [Mad]

Edit:

ElJay- I said the other day but I meant about a half an hour ago.

Edit of the Edit:

I stopped lying on Hatrack. Everything I have said since my landmark(including the landmark; except a few parts of the Florida Sea Base trip were exaggerated as most stories come to be after a period of time) has been true. I've vowed not to lie on Hatrack anymore. And if people don't believe me I will quit. Because I don't feel I can talk with people who don't believe what I say.

Once again: I'm not lying!!!!!!!

Steve, can we make this thread happy again? You've responded to ElJay, now let it go. This is not supposed to be a [Mad] thread, remember?

Beren- No offense; but you really aren't helping. Just for your information though I meant Frank, as in the name.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Steve, please smile. If you smile and drop it, we won't have to ask you to leave the thread. It's not hard, see? [Smile] Now, please, don't do this in this thread any more. If you feel the need, post a thread about how you're not Frank, but don't do it here. Please.

Posted by Beren One Hand (Member # 3403) on :

Sorry Steve, didn't mean to make things worse. I guess I like to diffuse tense situations with inappropriate humor. It is a defense mechanism I learned from an unhappy childhood where my parents fought all the time (j/k, made that up).

I guess as a person with four login names, I can't really point any fingers. [Smile]

You're probably getting a bit more flak than you usually would have because we recently had an experience with another poster who was also accused of making up stuff.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

kq- I'm sorry. But I don't like being falsely accused of lying. I'll let it drop. If it comes up again any place else I will start a topic on it.

*stands up with more energy bearing pom poms*

*begins clapping*

Thats alright, thats okay. You're going to get it right some day. Yeah!

Narnia, we're up to $197.25, with approximately $90 that will clear by the 28th still to be added to that! I think Annie's gonna make it-- especially if everyone who has said they will contribute but not gotten to it yet does. [Smile]

Mine and Leonide's money will be on the way in a few days. I had to transfer money into my paypal account to be able to send it, rather than using a credit card and losing a few dollars on the transaction.

You guys are totally amazing.

Who was saying that airline prices go down a couple weeks before the date? Is that the smartest thing, or should I secure a ticket now?

I'll see how good of a price I can get, and use as much as I need for travel expenses. If there's any left, I can return it accordingly. I'll let you know when I get my ticket how things look.

Posted by Lady Jane (Member # 7249) on :

Yes, wait until about a month before hand. My plane ticket for BobanDanaCon has gone down $140 since I first looked.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I would suggest buying exactly four weeks before you intend to travel. Fares may go down a little after that, but that is usually the best intersection of low fares and choice of flights.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

And don't return the extra, hon. Take Hobbesey out somewhere nice or something. [Wink]
