I could've done SO much better on the new test.

Me too, mack.
I have to say something, though. I know how these are scored, and the new writing portion is probably going to send some scorers over the edge.

I always did even better on in-class timed essays and tests with essay questions than on essays I had time to prepare for. Yet another reason I think the system isn't fair; my husband had to fight his way out of remedial math and english classes in college because he doesn't do well on tests, while I am exempt from the placement test which so failed him because my SAT scores were so high (with no practice or pre-test.)

Congrats to your kid!
Was it for the Duke TIP program qualification? My kids did that.

I did that. Scored (I think) about a 900 if I remember right. Don't be surprised if your oldest starts getting college offers

I took the PSATs this year. My score would have translated to a 1970 out of 2400 on the new SATs.

I wish I had got the new version with the writing section. I didn't miss a question on the verbal, yet my maths section was less-than-stellar. Standardized tests; bleh.
