Season 6 of The Amazing Race ended a few weeks ago, and man, was it a letdown. Out of 11 teams, I barely managed to like one or two, and the constant bickering... oi.

Season 7 starts tonight at 9 on CBS, and it's looking like it's going to rock! Out of the 11 teams, there's one, maybe two, that look boring and annoying. The rest are teams of really cool-sounding people, like normal, everyday people! No more "dating/models" teams. [Razz]

So, I've got the popcorn... who's bringing the Dr Pepper? [Big Grin]

I don't think I'm going to watch, simply because I don't want to see those two idiots from survivor anymore. I don't watch survivor, and I don't want to see the people who won survivor compete to win more more on another show. I see no reason for the amazing race folks to have brought them in.

CBS made Bertram Van Munster put them on the show.

I am going to try out for TAR 9 when the applications come out. My best friend and I are going to try and be the mid-40's best friends team. He speaks some Japanesse and Chinesse and I speak a little Spanish.

Yeah, I'm no fan of Rob and Amber, but they have a lot more going for them than the usual "villains"... they're huge fans of the show, which is always nice, and they're not likely to shove any domestic violence in our faces.

And, honestly, they're only a tiny fraction of the cast. The editors have always done a great job of balancing time for everyone, and there's a huge number of interesting, non-model teams this season.

The last time they cast reality-show crossovers was in season 5, and that ended up being an absolutely incredible season. Here's hoping for another! [Smile]

I think it would be interesting to hear Romber's comments on how hard each game is. I mean, those two had to live in primative conditions, vote off people they lived with, eat nothing or whatever they caught and had to perform some tough physical challanges. TWICE.

I would think that TAR would be a cakewalk after that.

The girl from Big Brother was also forced on the producers by CBS, but luckily that couple was doomed before they started and were off by the end of episode 2.

I give Romber at least 5-6 weeks.

The reason I don't want to watch them is BECAUSE we will have to hear about the difference between the two shows. That will annoy me, I don't care and I don't want to hear it. If I wanted to hear about survivor I would watch survivor.

(Sorry, but this makes me angry. Amazing race was one of two shows I actually watch on tv. The other is Lost, at least I still have that.)

Well, AR, keep your ears open for when Romber gets Philiminated, then, and you can have TAR back. [Smile]

Man, I'm just all about the TWOP jargon today, huh? [Big Grin]

Posted by prolixshore (Member # 4496) on :

I will. The good news is I am in a bowling league on tuesday nights for the next few weeks anyway. So hopefully they will be gone by the time that finishes and I can watch in peace. [Smile]

Except that in TAR there's no voting off. If you lose the physical stuff you're out. There's no way to manipulate the other players into letting you live.

Rob and Amber are by far not the weakest racers physically, that always goes to the all-female and all-elderly teams, unfortunately. Romber, however, isn't exactly the most intelligent team on the race, though, and that could bite them in any number of ways. Especially if they come in with a healthy dose of smugness, that's been many a team's downfall. [Smile]

I don't think their success on Survivor is any indication at all of how well they'll do on The Amazing Race, which is one of the reasons I'm not particularly bothered by their presence on the show.

Is it okay if I bring Diet Dr. Pepper?

I am so there. I love this show. [Smile] It's the only reality show I watch, and I'm not even sure why I love it, I just do. My kids love it too, and for the most part there isn't anything on there that I object to - though the constant reference in one of them to a couple as "Dating/Virgins" got on my nerves.

In the last race, we used the ridiculous behavior of Jonathan and Victoria as a teaching moment for our kids of how NOT to behave to someone you love.

I adored the episode where they put roses at the slavery door - I had a good teaching moment when my seven year old asked why that man was crying.

We also learn geography, we like to look up the countries they visit on our globe.

Belle, have you heard that the next season is going to be all families?? It should be awesome! Overall, it's such a classy show... that's great that you find so many learning opportunities in it. I think the editors do an excellent job of rewarding the racers who keep an open mind about the countries they visit, and making sure the "Ugly Americans" look ridiculous. (I think Kendra will forever be remembered for her horrible "breeding" comment.)

I'm hoping that this season will have even more examples of "normal" Americans, not the whiny and unrepresentative "model" types that all other reality shows seem to focus on.

And did you hear the interview where Hera said that she had never, ever in her life seen her father cry before that moment at the doorway? It's incredible what this mere "reality show" brings out in people... I've lost track of the number of times it's made me tear up or burst out laughing.

I can't wait! [Big Grin]

Gee…. To bad it’s on at the same time as Gilmore Girls.

One problem I have with the show is due to the structured tasks and travel routes it makes the teams continuasly catch up with eachother. I witty move doesn't do very much becuase who cares everyone will just catch up at the next airport anyway? Sometimes it really irratates me. [Wall Bash]

Posted by Zeugma (Member # 6636) on :

"Bunching" was a much huger problem in the last season than it had been before. I'm really, really hoping they don't have as many tasks with "hours of operation" this time around... not too exciting when an entire leg's work is thrown out because everyone has to sit around waiting for something to open.

Airport bunching is fine with me, though... I mean, it wouldn't be very exciting to have one team like 3 days ahead of the other teams. There wouldn't be any suspense.

Posted by 0range7Penguin (Member # 7337) on :

That wouldn't happen do to the checkpoints. They could only get one or two days ahead of eachother. Also I wonder what the rules say you can and can't do because if they let you I would be ruthless. I would hide people bags, let air out of tires, give wrong directions, etc. Not because I'm a mean person, usually I'm very nice, but my personal opinion is that its a game and should be treated as such and if its not against the rules than its fair game. Eh? [Evil Laugh]

Posted by msquared (Member # 4484) on :

As I understand it you can give teams wrong information but you can not sabotage thier equipment.

I also think that there was too much bunching last season. That all really started after the first season when the winning team was able to get a days lead on the the other teams. Luckily it was near the end.

Remember, Phil has to be at the pit stop for the last team and then he has to get to the next pit stop, even if there are flight delays. He has said that there have been times where he is running to the pit stop just before the first place team was showing up.

This is the only reality show my wife will watch with me.

I only watched the last episode of the first season but I seem to recall that the third place team was two days behind the other two.

Wow, Rob and Amber sure are evil. There was a crash? Oh well, it's a race, can't stop.

Posted by Belle (Member # 2314) on :

Man, I am so impressed with how Lynn and Alex acted - and equally as disgusted at Rob and Amber.

What jerks.

And Uchenna and Joyce giving clothes to Meredith and Gretchen. I like that couple, they seem very nice and work well together.

Posted by urbanX (Member # 1450) on :

I can't believe the old couple are still on this show...It's funny that Rob and Amber got outsmarted...

Posted by Zeugma (Member # 6636) on :

Uchenna and Joyce were just incredible these last two weeks. They aren't perfect, Joyce does seem to yell at him a good amount, but the idea that they started this race with "marriage difficulties" is laughable. I love watching them succeed, though I'm not really getting my hopes up for them. I REALLY hope that Ron and Kelly don't win it all... he seems like a nice enough guy, but she's a nasty, hateful princess, and together they're pretty awful. [Razz]

Posted by MEC (Member # 2968) on :

I really hated her when she said that Ron got out of his commitment to the military by being a POW. What a bitch!

Posted by Vána (Member # 6593) on :

Yeah, that was pretty awful.

I was very disappointed that they didn't get eliminated this round. [Grumble]

Posted by Belle (Member # 2314) on :

Uchenna and Joyce are definitely my picks. I want them to win. I loved it when she had to shave her head - Uchenna was more upset than she was! It was obvious he cared about her and didn't want her to be upset over it. And she was just "It's hair it'll grow, let's go I'm not turning around."

Rob and Amber get on my nerves and Kelly is just a witch, like you guys said. I love Meredith and Gretchen's gumption, but I don't know if they can physically hang in there til the end.

Posted by msquared (Member # 4484) on :

If the other teams are smart they want Meredith and Gretchin in the final two with them. Who do you want to have a foot race with, Romber or the late 60's couple.

I think U/J are going to win. Joyce has to be my favorite female racer of all time. What grit. Not only on cutting her hair (she looks fine without it) but also in the horse riding activity back in Argentina. She was thrown twice but got back on and finished the task.

I also like Uchenna and Joyce and hope they win, but in the end I'd be just as happy if Rob and Amber won. Just because most of the teams have had so much malice towards Rob and Amber right from the beginning. Then they act surprised when Rob does something dirty, as if it was some sort of betrayal. I also think that of all the teams, Rob and Amber have bickered and fought the least, unlike the most annoying of teams (ron and kelly, and that other team that was recently eliminated). Meredith and Gretchen are just hilarious though. They get to a non-elimination round, lose all of their money and possessions, and despite the fact that they should of lost right after that, instead they just keep on getting better. Really though, it's just dumb luck. In every episode one team has done something really stupid, and that has allowed Meredith and Gretchen to stay in the game.

I'm bumping the thread because the finale is tonight. I happen to be watching, though I missed most of these shows because of my work schedule. I'm rooting for Uchenna and Joyce.

Posted by Fitz (Member # 4803) on :

I'm cheering for Rob and Amber, just because everyone else seems to hate them. Last week's preview seemed to indicate that each team would suffer some debilitating setbacks in tonight's episode. Should be a good one.

Posted by Tstorm (Member # 1871) on :

I understand why most people don't like them. They treat people like dirt, and I'm not talking about the other teams. I've seen dozens of examples of them being downright nasty. You're free to root for them of course. [Smile] I tend to gravitate to the teams who don't resort to verbal abuse and arguments. I kinda wish the older couple were still in it.

Did you see the news reports about suspended betting in Vegas because of how heavily the betting was going? I've a very strong feeling I know who won. Because all the way back when it happened, they mentioned the team. And that team is still in the race.

They have to thank that pilot, he won the race for them for letting them on the flight...

***SPOILER ALERT***

I just want to point out how awesome it was for Uchenna and Joyce to scramble to pay their cab driver before running to the finish. It was the honorable way to conduct business.

The people who won are the ones who the betting was suspended over.

They are a class act. I'm glad they won.

You know, this airs later out west. You might want to edit your posts.

****SPOILER****

Nice spoiler, Wowbagger. I'm glad Uchenna and Joyce won, even though I was cheering for Rob and Amber. As for how Rob and Amber treat people, well I agree to an extent. I didn't like when Rob was badmouthing people a couple episodes ago, but other than that his strategy has been great. It's a race. The point is to win, and Rob does it by playing dirty. I'd be disappointed in myself if I didn't play the same way. Really though, the main reason I like Rob and Amber is because of the way they treat each other. Of all the teams in the race, they seem to have the closest relationship. I only remember them fighting on one occassion.

Well, 90 minutes left to watch, despite knowing the outcome.

*** SPOILER CONTINUES...***

Despite missing many of the episodes, I do enjoy watching these races. I'm not a fan of reality TV shows, normally. I think this is the one exception.

I can honestly say, the bickering and snide moves bug me. I've been known to mute certain teams consistently, and I've even turned off the TV because I don't frequen understand why these teams have anything to complain about.

I think I'll cease viewing this show...not that I ever made a truly significant effort to watch it in the first place.
