Post here if you think you want to carpool with me. Planning on leaving Friday afternoon so we don't get in too late.

Definite so far:

Is there a reason they shouldn't? [Angst]

Hrm...a quick look shows that I can save $10 and 15 hours in a Greyhound by bussing into Chicago.

If there aren't people who need the ride more, I'd love to join.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

I wish I could, but it's too busy of a time for me. And getting to Chicago would be hard. So I'll have to pass.

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

I have a 7 passenger mini van. Realistically it fits 6 comfortably. I'd like to hold a spot for xnera open, because she may have no other means of transportation.

So
1)Me
2)Kat
3)Fugu
4)Frisco
5)xnera (tentative)

Looks like we've got room for one more person or two if ya'll want to get cozy. If I've promised these spots to someone already, remind me. Otherwise they are open.

AJ

Also it will be approximately a 6 hour drive, though I need to double check on the exact location. Hopefully we won't hit the blinding snowstorm we did last time. And, good conversation always makes the time fly.

(Yahoo says 5.5 hours.) Also, I'd appreciate it, if you can't make it to my house directly, if you could try to make your way out of the City of Chicago proper. Try to head to O'Hare Airport, Schaumburg (has a major bus hub) or Arlington Heights (Metra can get you there for about $6.)

Running around picking people up from all over creation isn't fun. Getting every one to the Western suburbs cuts out hours of me driving around to pick people up.

AJ, just so you know, Dan and I will be leaving earlier on Friday because I need to be at the rehersal. I didn't want you to sit around waiting to hear from us. [Smile]

Banna, should I get to Chicago on Thursday night or Friday morning?

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

AJ, another "just so you know:" I'll be driving myself there for the wedding, but I'll be leaving again that night.

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

Kat it is up to you. I couldn't pick you up until after Five on thursday.

Everyone else, thanks for letting me know and we will see you at the wedding!

Since I keep reading this topic wrong, I'll just answer it anyway -- No, BobNI have made other transporation arrangements. But thanks for the offer. [Razz]

I wish I could go [Frown] But you guys have lots and lots of fun without me!

Posted by plaid (Member # 2393) on :

Ummm... maybe? I'm not sure of my plans yet -- I'm going to be getting an Amtrak monthly pass and I'll be visiting friends in the Midwest right before the wedding, and I'm trying to figure out the @#$%&* Amtrak schedule, and depending on where I'm at it may be easiest for me to get to Chicago instead of relying on the once-a-day Amtrak service to Iowa to be on time...

(Alternatively: CT and other Madison folks -- anyone coming from Madison have room? I might be in Madison right before the wedding, depending on my schedule...)

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

Grin, dkw, sorry for throwing you. I hope you aren't riding with me anywhere!

AJ

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

plaid, you could come with me from Madison, but I plan on arriving a couple of hours before the wedding and then heading back to Madison during the reception. If that works for you, I'd be happy to chauffeur. [Smile]

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Or, if you want to stay for the reception and aren't too concerned about where you rejoin Amtrak, you could ride down with CT and then head up to MN with me Sunday or Monday. I won't be leaving IA until after the last airport run is done, however, so it's not exactly scheduled yet. Or we could probably get you to the train stop in IA, if you prefer that.

Posted by plaid (Member # 2393) on :

CT -- I wanna be at the wedding longer (if I'm gonna go to the hassle of getting to Iowa to meet jatraqueros for the first time, then dang it, I'm gonna be there as long as I can!), so I'm hoping to get in Friday.

I've got friends who live in Des Moines that I'm going to be visiting Monday, so ElJay if that's on your way up to Minnesota, I'd love to catch a ride with ya for all of 30 minutes or however far it is... [Smile]

I hate hurrying, and it looks like we'll be meeting other people in various places, so I'll get a flight for Thursday night. I'll go to work on Thursday, so I won't arrive until after five for sure.

Is Midway or O'Hare better?

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

Des Moines is south of Ames, but there will be enough people going to the airport there that someone will be able to get you to your friends' house

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

O'Hare is much much better. However if you will save over $40 dollars flying into Midway then it would be worth my pain and suffering to get there. Otherwise I'll reimburse the difference so I don't have to drive to Midway!

When are we intending to be back in Chicago? I'm looking at purchasing my ticket to chicago.

Most likely I'll arrive Thursday evening at O'Hare, ticket prices for then look good.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

fugu are you seriously flying to chicago? Wouldn't almost be saner to walk? [Taunt]

Posted by fugu13 (Member # 2859) on :

No.

[Razz]

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

Knowing how these sort of things go, I'm guessing we will leave after brunch/lunch on Sunday. That would put us back in the Chicago area around 6pm. If we need to leave earlier that is fine too.

Picking both Russell and Kat up from O'Hare on Thursday evening would work out fabulously for me.

It’s only one month away!!! Aaaaaaaaaaa!

*runs in circles*

The bridesmaids’ dresses aren’t done and I need to pack for the honeymoon and make Veil Mark III, and line up everything for church while I’m gone and Holy Week and Easter services are coming up . . . . Aaaaaaaaaaaa!

You've got plenty of time, dkw. They were still stitching my wife's dress 2 hours before the ceremony. [Smile] After they had to let out one of the bridesmaid's dresses as she was secretly pregnant.

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

Yes, but I have six bridesmaid's dresses to be made and the seamstress keeps telling me she'll e-mail me a form for their measurements and she hasn't done it yet!

*hyperventilates*

*goes to call seamstress*

I do have a backup plan, but it involves me and everyone I know with a sewing machine not sleeping the week before the wedding. So I'm hoping we don't have to go that route.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Yow.

Well, I could tell the story of how the tux place gave us the wrong ties, and we had to drive Nascar style to the place, where they THREW the right ones to us football style as we sped away to the church. [Wink] Just bumps along the road...

Posted by Lady Jane (Member # 7249) on :

SIX BRIDESMAIDS??? That's awesome! Do they all match?

Did Bob have to come up with six brothers/friends for ushers? My mom had seven bridesmaids (two sisters, one SIL, one long-standing maid of my grandmother, and three friends), and my dad had to come up with seven guys to fill out the other side. He had one brother, but he'd only lived in Houston for a year and had been dating my mother most of that time. He was asking random co-workers at work if they'd be in his wedding. [Razz]

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

We actually made our lists separately and both came up with eight. But two of my attendants are bridesmen, so they’re wearing tuxes. And the groomsmaid found a seamstress in her own town to make her dress. [Big Grin]

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

The list of who is riding with AJ. I think we are basically full now.

AJ
Kat
Frisco
Stray
Fugu
Plaid

Unless you have previously discussed your travel arrangments with AJ (Kat, Stray and Fugu)
Please attempt to arrive Thursday Evening or Friday Morning, to O'Hare Airport or in the Schaumburg-Arlington Heights vicinity.

Getting to the Northwest suburbs or O'Hare will simplify AJ's life and she's only hanging onto her sanity now by a few threads because of the TEN puppies.

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

cool. Honestly if you post approximate arrivals here, it will be easier to track than if you send me individual e-mails. I'll lose the e-mails, I can always find this thread.

11:15 AM Friday morning at Union Station (coming in on bus), let me know if you'd like me to get somewhere else to meet y'all!

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

Plaid I just sent you and Stray an e-mail. I suspect that you, she and fugu will all be arriving approximately at the same time into Union station. From there you should be able to walk across the street and catch a Metra train for Arlington Heights for about $6. I'll pick you up at the Arlington Heights station, and it will be much less hassle than me driving into the city.

I've already given Stray all of the directions, but I'll have to re-dig them up for you, if she can't forward them on (I don't save my outgoing e-mail in that account.)

AJ

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

So that no one else [Wink] loses the information in an e-mail either. You need to travel from Union station to the Ogilvie Transportation center, basically across the street.
Here is a map:
http://metrarail.com/Sched/cnw_nw/chicago_ogilvie.shtml

You need to walk *out* the Madison Street exit of Union Station (sometimes a little tricky) in order to cross the street and walk Into Ogilvie.

You will want to take the Metra/Union Pacific District Northwest Line to the Arlington Heights Station.
The line:
http://metrarail.com/Sched/cnw_nw/cnw_nw.shtml
The weekday Outbound Schedule.
http://metrarail.com/Sched/cnw_nw/cnwnwwo.shtml

Stray and fugu are arriving at 10:40. Plaid is arriving at 11:15. You guys should be able to all collectively make the 11:30 outbound train, plaid only has 15 minutes leeway but it should be doable. A one-way ticket is $3.70 per person.

You should purchase this before you get on the train. They charge you extra if you buy it from the conductor while you are on the train. (Maybe stray and fugu could get a ticket for plaid so that is one less thing he has to do, with the time crunch?)

Hmmm, I didn't know there was a Cairo, IL. Is this Greyhound or Amtrak? I suspect I'll give you the same directions as Plaid, get the bus into Union Station (probably the "Chicago Amtrak" location, but I'm not sure) Then take the Metra light rail system out to Arlington Heights.

(The "Cumberland" one would probably be my second choice though I'd need to see exactly where it is on a map too. Do you have a link?)

Plaid, yes, I'd tell you to just wait an hour and take the next Metra train (it's a train not a bus), if your bus is late. I'll e-mail you with my cell number. Anyone else who doesn't have it, tell me so I can e-mail it to you. (Frisco do you still have it from KamaCon?)

AJ -- when we get to Arlington Heights station, where do we go? Like, is it a small enough station that we'll walk off the platform and you'll be right there and you'll know it's us?

Posted by BannaOj (Member # 3206) on :

Yep, it's a small enough station that I'll probably be pulled up in the waiting area in my my white minivan, waiting for the train. If it's a nice enough day I'll park and get out, otherwise I won't. If you meet up with stray and fugu they already know what I look like. If you are on the next train here's a fairly recent picture. My haircut is now somewhere in between the two shown. http://sjonesce.home.comcast.net/ajspictures/haircut/haircut.htm
There are also some kama con pictures of me floating around at foobonic.

stray and fugu -- I passed through Union Station today (I'm in Madison now) and picked up a Metra ticket for Friday, so I won't need a ticket and can just meet y'all and go right over to the Metra station. (The bus I'll be on stops at Canal St. right outside of Union Station, so as long as the bus is on time, I should be able to get off the bus, grab my luggage, and meet y'all within a minute or two.)
