I have a Powerbook G4 laptop. I just recently got it back from the techies (IT) at my school, after I had to have my harddrive replaced. The case is dented, but not too badly. I do have to hold the powercord in. It has been taking up to 30 mins to start p lately, however.

Back to the point: It was working fine this morning, but it then froze. I tried to restart it, and it took half an hour (per usual) to start up. It then froze again, so I restarted. It worked fine, and then, as I was typing in my password, I gave it a little bump on a wall to keep the powercord in. The screen went black, adn the caps lock and num lock lights went on. From then on, it has not started up. It makes promising noises, but it just doesn't work.
I am on march Break, so there is no way I can see the school techies.

I am not a techie. I don't know what to do.

Please help!

Is the power cord loose when you plug it in, or does it fit snugly?

Has it always been loose, or only since you got the laptop back?

The powercord does not go all the way in. There seems to be a dent in the side, which means that I need to hold it in, or push it up against something to keep it in.

It sounds like they did more damage in trying to repair the machine, but some of the more technical minds may have a better opinion.

Is your laptop still under manufacturer warranty?

No. It is secondhand, through the school. It came from one of the girls who left last year.

I think you're just out of luck - from what you're describing, I'd recommend taking it back to the IT department, explain the problem and see if they can get it right the second time around.

Your best bet is to have a tech look at it.

However, it's possible that the little "bump" you gave it disconnected something either inside or outside the case. More than likely either the display or the monitor cable (maybe even the video card). If you're not very tech savvy I'd advise against trying to fix it yourself if it's an internal problem, however, if it's external just try unplugging everything and plugging it back in.
