That's an overbold statement, especially if you consider the native populations. And I'm also slow to weigh the wishes of the Alaskans against environmental concerns. I mean, it's not as if we allow private property owners to dump toxic waste on their property, and considering ANWR is public land, broader concerns need to be addressed.

Personally, I'd rather Bush find the gumption to tell Americans to stop driving so much, but your mileage may vary.
