Ever have a song you hadn't heard in months or years pop into your head for no conscious reason? But if you ponder, there's often a reason why your subconscious has chosen that particular song -- an association with a past event, a theme, a phrase . . .

Sondheim's "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" (from Sweeney Todd) popped into my head suddenly tonight. Which is odd, because while I love that musical, I had trouble remembering where the song was from. It's a pretty song, but I don't recall ever thinking about it much.

I've actually spent quite some time now looking for anywhere online I could hear a complete version (or at least a sample longer than 29 seconds [Razz] ) of the song. (This is the best so far.)

And paying a lot more attention to the lyrics than I ever did before.

Cages . . . yeah, I'm feeling pretty caged right now. I keep ending up back in the same place, along so many paths. Paths that seem linear . . . but are actually Moebius strips.

"Have you decided
it's safer in cages,
singing when you're told?"

[Dont Know]

If I cannot fly, let me sing.

Oh, I love that song!!! *is taken to a nostalgic place*

My voice teacher in the US had two copies of the entire vocal score of Sweeney Todd, for some reason, and so he just gave me the other one... O_O Sondheim vocal scores, the complete ones, cost about $100. I was so touched!
