quote:
The new musical is faithful to the 1975 Monty Python and the Holy Grail film in certain key respects. Python fans will be pleased to know that the 'killer-rabbit' and the French Taunter scenes remain.

But Spamalot has a plot that broadens out to spoof Broadway, and various musicals, including those of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

and

quote:
On opening night, Spamalot did win over non-Python audiences - as New York theatergoer Genevieve Oparski puts it, "it's simple humour, there's nothing like simple, funny stuff. It can't not appeal to anyone".

but

quote:
Word on the musical hasn't been totally euphoric however. Some commentators have indicated that a few of the lyrics poking fun at the prevalence of Jews in Broadway theatre could cause offence.

But if there is any outrage it seems pretty muted.

Generally seems to have been well-recieved! What do people think? Or is this as blasphemous as the LotR musical?

[Warning about that link: John Cleese mentions Bush's America. Poster (me) does not endorse his opinion]

Edit: I think that anything that people like, and that is fun, even if it does replicate something that to many people is perfect, or does not need improving, is a good thing. I.E. I'm looking forward to hearing about it.

Edit #2: Spamalot Website (look at the dark text after you click on the high bandwidth link [Laugh] )

Is it going to go to St. Louis's the Fox?

I saw it in Chicago. I've heard it's only gotten better from how good it already was.

Spamalot already opened. It's just opening in New York for the first time, which isn't the same thing. [Smile]

I still want to know if it is going to St. Louis. All of you are better internet searchers than I.

It will probably come to St. Louis as part of a second-rate touring company. But that won't be for several years, if it ever happens.

It's nice to see the Python gang back together agreeing on something like this.

Maybe now that they've reunited they'll put some thought into a new film.
