My daughter's birthday is this weekend, and she's requested an oreo cookie cake. Many years ago, when we lived in another state, a friend brought a cake with oreo cookies in the cake and in the frosting that he'd bought at a neighborhood bakery. I'm not sure I've ever seen one anywhere else. I'm pretty comfortable with making things up as I go, baking wise anyway.
My thoughts are to just add crushed oreos to a packaged white cake mix and bake as usual, and then to add more oreos to a regular butter cream frosting, and garnish with whole cookies.
Any suggestions? Anyone who's made such a cake before? I'm especially concerned that the cookies not get soggy.

Thanks Bob. All the "oreo cakes" I found were more of a no-bake cheesecake thing, which I would love, but my children would not appreciate.

I know it's not the same thing.. but you can make some really, really, REALLY good frosting like this:
mix cool whip with about 2 packages of creme cheese. shave a couple of hershey bars with a knife and mix it all together. OH YUM OH YUM is it GOOD!
I don't really know the exact measurements..but it seems to me that you couldn't go wrong with it.
That frosting was one of my friend's favorite growing up. Now I love it, too.
