I rented Napoleon Dynamite yesterday. I thought it was hilarious! I don't understand what some people find so pathetic about it. Yes, Napoleon is a loser, but it's a movie. It's supposed to be funny. And there are so many awesome quotes!
Does anyone care to share why they loved it or hated it?

It was the worst waste of film I have ever witnessed. It wasn't funny. It wasn't entertaining. It wasn't compelling. It wasn't interesting. It wasn't even one of those movies that are so bad that you have to see it just to see how bad it is. It's just bad.

If you got it on DVD watch the "Flippin' Features." Especially the trailer named "Liger vs. Tigon."

I thought parts of it were funny, but eventually the the constant vibe of the movie and attitude of the jokes started to wear down on me.

I have yet to see the movie, but my friend loves to quote from it. She recently yelled to me "Tina, you fat lama, come get your ham!". In public. Without explaining what it was from. She almost died a slow and painful death. But now I think it's frickin hilarious, and use it often.

I've discovered I have absolutely no opinion of the movie. When I watched it alone, I was bored out of my skull and couldn't wait for it to end. When I watched it with people who appreciated it, however, it became this weird sort of bonding device, and I enjoyed it. I guess the two responses sorta cancel each other out into a confused "murh?" I didn't really enjoy watching the movie.
But QUOTING the movie is entirely different. I DO enjoy that.
ND is one of those films that is much more funny when reenacted by people you know.

I liked the movie, but I did NOT have a crush on Napoleon. At all. I thought he was amusing and felt sorry for him, but he was never actually attractive.

It just felt so awkward to me. I thought I was something of a misfit in High School, then I watch ND and realize I didn't even know what a misfit *was*. I felt bad for watching, then I realized that it was a movie and I was supposed to watch him.

Napolean is an ass. He's not someone I would want to be friends with at all. So yeah, not attractive that way, and not physically attractive, either.
I still loved the movie, though.

It's a very rare person who is that much of an ass in high school. I only knew about five people in a school of 2000+ who were anywhere near that bad.

I'm with Zotto!, Book, and ScottR.
It's so overquoted though that I twitch whenever someone makes a reference.
I think my biggest beef with the movie is that I know people who are really like Napoleon and so like, I could go sit in the cafeteria and stare at them if I really wanted to watch an idiot going about his everyday tasks.

So was my best friend Molly. Molly has always been good, funny, honest, and pleasant to be around, even in the throes of teenagerdom. I, not being naturally gifted in most of these qualities, decided to make her my role model and best friend, the better to take advantage of them.

Yeah, I can see that. Some movies can get to be not as funny when you watch them too much. For example, I thought Rat Race and Meet the Parents were really funny when I first saw them, but once you know what happens, it's hard to watch them over and over and still think they're funny.
But I've only seen Napoleon Dynamite twice, so I don't know yet if it fits into that category.
