I really hope he wins!
The thing is, I really don't think he would be particularly bummed if he didn't. He has it going on without American Idol, and that shows through. He is so relaxed as a performer.

I want Anwar or Nadia to win...
I'm still mad that Amanda Avila got voted off! [Mad]

I love Anwar. He is my true favorite, but I don;t think he will win. Anwar and Bo. And I do like Nadia a lot, too. Please, though, America, vote The Nanny off tonight!

You mean that woman that CAN'T SING and won over Amanda Avila which is STILL pissing me off.
Amanda Avila is 10 times better than her. Her voice is TERRIBLE. ARRRRRRRRRRG.

I loved that performance. It was wonderful.

This has to be the end of the road for the NANNY. She can't sing, and she's incredibly annoying.

I think Mikahla's gone tonight, Liz. I'd be really surprised if she makes the cut.

My favorite was Carrie Underwood's "Alone". What a voice!

If she and Bo aren't the top two at the end, there's no justice in the world. [Smile]

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Carrie has a fabulous voice, but she is boring to me. Still, i agree that she and Bo should be one and two, with Anwar up there somewhere.

The sad thing about Mikhaila is that she is obviously trying to tone herself down, but it is backfiring. She is a young thing, though, and she will be back again I'm sure. When she hits it right, she does have a very powerful voice.

I liked Amanda too, but overall, I think the men are better this year.

I love listening to Bo sing. I can't exactly pinpoint why, but I love listening to it. I will be mad if he doesn't get an album deal, 'cause I want to listen to more of his voice.

Bo is the man! I always hoped they would get a rocker on that show. I really hope he wins. But if not, Vonzell has a very good voice. Nikko did well this week as well.

From the links, he sounds like Joe Cocker with a little of James Taylor to smooth out the edges in a post-Eddie Vedder world.

He sounds like the perfect candidate to do an album of Joe Cocker covers. And seeing how most of Cocker's hits were covers, it would be an album of covers of covers. I'd still buy it though. [Smile]

I like Bo, but I hate the AI format. I can't wait until the contest is over... every time I see him, I just wish he could pick up a guitar, step into a really killer band, and jam on some original pieces. I think the fact that he plays multiple instruments and composes is at least as impressive as his voice. Provided he could find the right band, and if he really can write a decent song, I think he has the potential to be the only person from any season of that show whose album I might potentially be in the market for.

By the way, I loved the Jim Croce song. It was funny... I'd just replaced my Jim Croce Greatest Hits onto CD the week before that show, and I'd introduced my wife to Time In a Bottle about two days earlier. And unlike some of the judges, I found it most refreshing that someone finally had the nads to be subdued for once. I get so sick of the cookie-cutter power ballads with the one piercing high money-shot note at the end. He already proved that he has the chops, and I liked how he put the [bruce lee]emotional content[/bruce lee] above the showing off... I really thought it worked. And finally, I thought it was cool that he pulled the guitar player up on stage with him for his performance on Tuesday. I've always wished someone would do something like that, and I guess it stands to reason that he'd be the one.

Bo is awesome and he doesn't need this competition. He could quit right now and someone would just hand him a record deal.

I also love Constantine, Anwar, Carrie, and Nadia. I loved Constantine's rendition of "I Think I Love You" by the Partridge Family! It was awesome!

"every time I see him, I just wish he could pick up a guitar, step into a really killer band, and jam on some original pieces."

I thought he was in one, Speed. I know Constantine is, but I thought Bo was, too.

I would love to hear some of his original stuff.

(Aside: Do you like Percy Hill?)

Posted by Speed (Member # 5162) on :

Yeah, I got that impression. But I've never seen him play with a band. That's what I'm lamenting. When it's over, I hope to get a load of that, and I hope the band is as good as he is.

By the way, I'm most of the way through those CDs you sent me. I really liked the Percy Hill. It didn't hurt that they covered "King of the World", one of my favorite Steely Dan songs. And if only for "Rush Hour Traffic", It would have been well worth having. However, while I like Percy, I love Railroad Earth. I'm listening to them right now, and they're really hitting my groove button. I'm digging them like mad. They're sure to enter my favorite list. Thanks immensely for turning me on to both of those bands.

Yeah, I keep thinking Bo would do great in a band, provided he can write some totally sweet songs to go with his voice.

Oh, and I hate Constantine. He just doesn't have the same natural charisma as Bo does. And he comes off as a poser.

Here are the band sites for Bo and Constantine:

Bo Bice and Sugarmoney

Constantine Maroulis and Pray for the Soul of Betty (frame site)

So far, my personal favorites are Bo, Nadia, Anwar, and Constantine. However, Carrie and Nikko impressed me with their performances last Tuesday night.

Yay, Nadia!!! Phew.

I going to second the love that Bo is receiving. The man has a wonderful voice and an easy in-your-livingroom charisma that is magical. Constatine on the other hand has a weak tinny voice and simply grates on my nerves.

His songs are really good on the website. One way or another, this will boost his career. or will it? Could the contract hinder him in some way?

Oh my.
Jessica and Anwar in the bottom two and Anthony and Scott stay in?
Hello?
America?

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

Yeah, my money was on Anthony getting voted off this week. I wasn't unhappy about Jessica getting the boot though it surprised me. She's got a great voice, but I hate watching her perform. Part of it is her fashion choices, part of it is that she reminds me too much of Diana DeGarmo.

The office bet was that the bottom two would be Anthony and Scott. So much for our accuracy.

Posted by Synesthesia (Member # 4774) on :

I like Anthony. He is cute.
But, they better not vote off Anwar because I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE HIM.

Posted by urbanX (Member # 1450) on :

Wow, Bo almost didn't make it tonite.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

I was thinking about the reason.
He committed a Rock n Roll Sin.
Freebird is a sacred song. He sang it to get points, and it backfired. It is not a song to be sung lightly.
I am so glad he made it through. I love Nadia, though, and dang it, Anthony sqyeaks by again.

You mean the songs from last night?
Hmm.
Sometimes MediaPlayer can be finicky if you have another program open. Try closing everything else down.

Posted by Speed (Member # 5162) on :

Yeah, Bo has a habit of picking songs that are meant to be played with at least 15 minutes of jamming, and then having to edit them down to 2 minutes of vocals. The songs don't sound near as good that way, but Bo manages to make it work as well as possible for his purposes. And I like the fact that he refuses to pick the same pre-packaged pop cheese that is expected. Yeah, this wasn't the version of "Freebird" that I'd want to listen to. But it was still far less irritating than "Let's Hear It For the Boy."

And I really liked what he said tonight about being in the bottom three. I honestly believe that he doesn't care, which I've never seen before in any season of this show. He liked what he was doing before the show, and the worst that could happen is that he goes back to doing that. Of course he failed to mention that he's now a celebrity (by some definition) and he'll probably be playing much bigger gigs and having albums for sale in Best Buy. I guess that doesn't hurt his feelings either.

Posted by Crotalus (Member # 7339) on :

Last night Bo got back in the game, I'm glad to say. After his "Freebird" debacle he really needed to come through. And he did, in spades! I was cringing when I heard what the theme for the night would be. Was thinking, "Bo is not going to do well." But he picked the perfect song for himself.

Posted by Speed (Member # 5162) on :

Oh, yeah. "Vehicle" and "September" are two of my favorite songs anyway, and two of my favorite performers did them in a row. Outstanding versions too, even if Bo did mess up the lyrics of the chorus every time he sang it. I was loving the end of last night's show more than I ever thought I could, considering that it's American Idol.

But I didn't think his version of Freebird was that bad either, considering the circumstances.

Vonzell's really picking up her game. I almost always hate her song selection, and last night was no exception, but I can't deny that she's been performing them excellently these past few weeks. She seems like a really nice person, too. I wouldn't mind seeing her win, even though I wouldn't touch any album she made with a ten foot pole.

And was I mistaken, or was last night one of Carrie's worst performances? I hate that song anyway, so maybe I'm biased, but her voice was so quiet on the low notes that you couldn't even hear her until she got to the choruses. And her timing seemed way, way off. I wonder if Simon raved over her performance just because he doesn't want her to get voted off and prove him wrong. Although he did roast her last week for what I thought was a much better showing. Maybe it's just me.

And Scott... what was that all about? Everyone kept saying that it was the perfect song for him. Of course it was; it had a range of about half an octave, and the same few words over and over again so that even he could remember them. I could have done a decent job with that song, and I suck. Scott is the only person left that isn't at least making a case for himself. Why is he still there?

Holy crap, I'm way too into this season. I hope no one I know reads this post. *hides head in shame* [Blushing]

Speed, I also loved what Bo said about his life if he loses. The thing is, I think the same is true of Anwar and Constantine, too. And it shows, in that they are will willing to take chances.

Bo is sitting pretty, big time. As you mentioned, he could care less, because he has already won! The worst that could happen to him now is that his band gets major national exposure, and he makes a boatload of cash.

I was so nervous last night, but he pulled it off! (I must say, he sort of skirted the disco bit)

As for hiding, Speed, no way. I proudly display my American Idol addiction on my groupie list, get scoffed at here and there, and get lost of private emails. Hee hee.

You are right, it wasn't that Freebird was badly done, it was just that it was done.

I watched American Idol last night for the first time this season. I usually watch the last few shows when the best of the best are competing.

I must say I thought EVERYONE was very AVERAGE. I didn't get any connect, except with the blond guy. I am assuming from this thread that he is Bo.

Nope--it was Anthony. He looked relaxed and like he was having fun.

I liked his voice, attitude, and look. I hope he wins. I didn't see the last singer, but from what I heard from the judges, he must have been great.

I certainly don't get that Scott Savol. He tries to hard with the attitude. His singing was so bad--but Paula and Randy loved him. I don't get it.

Bo...hmm...I haven't followed the season. Was he the last singer? If so, I missed him.

To those ashamed of watching AI. Last night I got a call from an old Navy buddy that I haven't seen in over ten years. It was about halfway through the show and I told my buddy, "Who the hell calls during the middle of American Idol?"

His response. "You @#@#$, I've lost all respect for you! I'm hanging up now."

I called him back once the show was over.

Anthony did very well last night.
I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that he is Russian born? Folks I have talked to who visit Eastern Europe say they are still pretty much into disco. So it may have been more natural for him.

Anwar.

So they divided the remaining 7 singers up 3 on one side, 3 on the other, with Bo sitting on the couch. They told him he was safe, and then asked him to join the group he thought was the top preformers. He stood in between the two groups.

Scott has some kind of serious superglue to keep making it each week. I don't get it. There is no way it should have been Anwar. But then, I don't vote, so I guess I should shut up.

I was gratified to see Anthony in the bottom three finally, though I think it's funny that it comes on a week where I thought his performance was pretty good considering. The top four were exactly who they should be, though I'm not sold on Vonzell.

And what in the world are they thinking of giving Ryan Seacrest a walk of Hollywood Star??

Thanks, Mack.

Speed, I feel your pain and anger, and disillusionment with the human race in general.

Jeniwren, say it isn't so! Ryan Seacrest did not get a star. I refuse to believe it. I am now closing my ears with my fingers and humming loudly.

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Yeah - he got a Star on the walk. They said it was in recognition of his work in radio -- before he got started on Idol.

And now they are advertising some other spin-off show that Seacrest will host -- a Top 40 kinda deal. Lame.

Farmgirl
(and I guess I should complain so much about Anwar getting voted off -- since I never got around to voting at all. Next week, I will vote.)

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Ahh...the top 40 show has been his from before Idol, actully. He got it from Rick Dees, who was the person who sponsered Ryan's star on the Walk of Fame.....but only under preassure from his radio station... [Big Grin]

Anwar was one of the best contestants. Scott is pretty good, but no where as good as Anwar was evey week so far.

Anthony should be gone within two weeks, but at this point who knows?

I loved Anwar! I think he'll still be really successful as a singer. Someone will give him a record deal.

I had my top five all picked out, but now two of them are gone. I still have Bo, Constantine, and Carrie. Vonzell is good. I don't really like Scott. And I don't think Anthony is as bad as everyone else thinks he is. I mean, out of thousands of auditioners, the judges did pick him for the top 24, and I think they know what they're talking about.

Posted by SmoG (Member # 7778) on :

Bo Bice is the worst of the top singers right now. He is ugly, he is off key, and he is bland. Constantine or Carrie will win this competition, unless, of course, they were voted out this week, because I missed it.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

I disagree with your assessment of Bo, SmoG, but I tend to like voices with depth and richness, and his voice has those qualities.

Kwea, you bring up a good point about Bo. I thought it was cool that he did that, but something rankled. Also, last week, when they knew he was in the bottom 3, they made the voting off show an hour.

Do they know he is going to win? Is it rigged somehow? Something just seems a little weird about it. Just a feeling, really.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Constantine is smug, and I can't figure it out. He has very little to be smug about....other than somehow still being in the case at this point.

He isn't good, although he is getting better.

Bo Bice will do fine either way, but Carrie is verygood as well.

Constantine should never have made it past the third or fourth week.

Then again, half the people there don't deverve to be there, anyway. [Dont Know]

Constantine plays the "hot" factor. That is why he is still in. And he is also fine eithr way. Carries has a nice voice, but she bores the bejeepers out of me.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Funny..I loo at hm and think "sleezy dirtbag", not hot......and most of the women I talked to about this think the same.

Not everyone does, of course. But I personally don't know a single woman who thinks he is hot.

Oh well.... [Dont Know]

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Anyone else notice how much Constantine plays the camera?

No matter what else is going on around him or who is talking -- he is looking directly into the TV camera -- like trying to milk "that look" for all it's worth. I noticed it a lot during the group-jam song last night, and then made it a point to watch for it the rest of the time.

It detracts.

Farmgirl

Random musings about Constantine:

Constantine has that same intangible 'something' that Hugh Grant also has. Something about their face just makes me want to punch them right in the nose.

Constantine looks like an ugly girl. And his name sounds like a girl's name. I mean, who names their male child 'Constantine' these days.

If you start off sucking as bad as Constantine did, if you improve at all, then everyone will say "wow, he's improved so much." So I guess the lesson is: Set the bar LOW.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

I agree that Constantine is more pretty than sexy, but he is considered hot by the masses, and hence his success. And he plays the camera for all it is worth, for sure.

Crotalus -- in all fairness -- I don't think it is right to judge based on a name his parents picked out for him. It isn't like he had any control over that particular aspect of his identify.

I'm just taking potshots at the guy cause i don't like him. The truth probably is that his real name is Jimmy or something and Constantine is just the stage name he picked for himself. Bet i'm right.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Pretty sure you're wrong. Constantine is his real name. He talked about it on one of the shows.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

He's of Greek descent. The name isn't that strange when you take that into account.

Posted by Speed (Member # 5162) on :

I guess the question of Constantine's real name has been put to rest.

Did anyone else find this week particularly... weak?

[Grumble] Probably because some of the best people got booted off. [Grumble]

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

I thought it was overall not all that good. I confess I downloaded the mp3's before the show played here on the west coast. The only one that was listenable was Bo's.

I love Carrie. She's probably the only one whose album I would buy. But I wouldn't buy it if she sang country, which is surprising, since that's her supposed forte and I actually do like country music. I *loved* her rendition of "Alone". I also liked her take on Joan Jett. I *really* didn't like her song tonight, and find her very boring as a country singer. She just doesn't have enough sass. If the song has sass, it seems like she really gets into it, and that's what I'd buy. The voice with songs that play into an oomph she doesn't carry on her own.

It will be a crime if anyone other than Scott goes tomorrow, though I wouldn't cry if Anthony got the axe.

Posted by urbanX (Member # 1450) on :

I've finally come to peace with the whole Scott thing. His own family pointed out to why Scott is still around. He's 100% average. He's like 50 million other guys out there. He has no remarable story to tell. He's not a rocker. He doesn't have great looks. He doesn't have tons of charisma. And he doesn't stand a chance after last night. As Simon said, "I'd pack my bags if I were you."

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Bo was the only one who was good last night, I thought. I thought Anthony was actually really good.

Everybody sucked last night, except maybe Vonzell, and I'm not sure about her because I missed most of her song.

Vonzell was off key the whole song.

Posted by Little_Doctor (Member # 6635) on :

I have been rooting against Scott for weeks now. Although, I'll admit hes been getting better. Bo is still my favorite. It seems Randy has taken a liking to him.

I seem to have an excuse every week for not watching the results show, so I'm going to ask again this week.

Who was voted off today?

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Constantine

Posted by urbanX (Member # 1450) on :

This was a shocker. Why is Scott still on this show?

Posted by prolixshore (Member # 4496) on :

I have to ask. I tried to watch American Idol this week. I was, once again, unimpressed. Too many people who sing flat when they only have to sing one song. That's crazy. If you want to be able to sing concerts on your own then you need to be able to handle two minutes on pitch. But that isn't the point.

Tonight, when Constantine was voted off the island, Paule cried. Hard. What is the deal with that? I didn't realize the "objective" judges were supposed to be emotionally invested in particular contestants.

Once again, I have been turned off to this show. Maybe I will give it a one week shot again next season, but only if they get rid of Paula and Randy and perhaps try a couple of judges who won't just tell every single contestant they are awesome and actually try, what's it calle?, judging.

What? Constantine? Geez, I need to start voting!

Why on earth is Scott still there? Ugh.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Well, well, I am glad you mentioned it. It was a bit weird, and not good timing. And then she was all over his mom. The show is on the hot seat for paula having an alleged affair with a contestant(a couple years ago?) and the voting being skewed.
I will see if I can find a link.

edit, my post is in response to p-shore

Holy crap. I didn't know the devil existed, but I can't deny it now because Scott is clearly in league with him. How could he not be in the bottom three?

I was surprised that Constantine was voted off just because I thought he had the teenage girl vote going for him. But his song was pretty awful last night. Sounded better tonight though. Funny what no pressure can do to you.

I guess now Bo is probably in an even better position, since there's no one to split the rocker vote. He and the Russian kid will probably split Constantine's demographic, based upon whether people were voting for him based on the music or the cuteness.

Anyway, I am once again completely stumped by Scott's bulletproof arse. Really, what's the deal here? That white trash everyman appeal can only take you so far. There's got to be some kind of supernatural involvement at this point.

Seriously, Scott has been doing soooo badly the past few weeks!
Ever since he stopped singing what he was actually good at (motown type stuff)
He really should have gone home instead of Con!!! [Roll Eyes]
People voting are goofy.

Well, that was worth watching. Lordy me, Constantine?!

He sounded much better tonight. There aren't very many of the songs that have been sung this season I would love to have in a studio cut. Two of them, though, are Constantines. I loved his Bohemian Rhapsody, and *embarrassed*...but his David Cassidy song too. It grew on me.

As of next week, I start voting.

I loved that one! That was the night I fell in love with him! [Wink]

Sadly, I can't vote because my phone is weird and doesn't call certain numbers. Also because Tuesday nights are busy and I only get to see the show if I remember to tape it.

I'm sad to see Constantine go. Scott better leave soon or I think there will be an uprising.

Well, last night the American people proved what I have been saying for years: they are smarter than the main stream media gives them credit for. Though I am ready to see Scott go, watching Constantine get the boot was gratifying.

At least, we're assuming it must be the interns who screen Idol wannabes for potential criminal records--otherwise, how to explain all the contestants with skeletons in the closet who somehow slip through the cracks?

Long-haired crooner Bo Bice is the latest Idol contestant to fall prey to the skills of the super sleuths at the Smoking Gun Website, who unearthed Bice's arrest records for felony cocaine possession back in 2001 and marijuana possession in 2003.

In fairness to Fox's background checking department, we were only kidding about the whole intern thing. The network claims it knew all about Bice's drug busts ahead of time and that it doesn't care. (We paraphrase.)

Finally. It's ironic, though. Last night was his only halfway decent performance of the season. Not that anyone else deserved the boot more than him anyway, but it's funny that he would keep going after all those crappy showings and then get kicked off after last night.

I was kind of hoping it would come down to him and Anthony in the final round, just to make it absolutely clear what a joke the show is. I guess that dream's done.

But anyway, hooray. *happy dance*

Scott kept his place the week before because of the underdog appeal when Simon said "Pack your bags." At least that is what we think at our house. Then he experienced the whiplash. I was still a little suprised, because he really did play up the underdog card on tuesday when he sang "On Broadway" and pointed at Simon.

Anyway, I'm hoping for Anthony to be gone. Much better singers and performers have been voted out than he is.

Posted by Kayla (Member # 2403) on :

For some weird reason, Vonzell reminded me of Evangeline Lilly tonight.

And what was with Bo Bice and the cross tonight? For those on the west coast, watch the song he sings without the band and the couple of shot right at the end of the song. Isn't that weird? Sub-conscious, or did they do it on purpose?

Posted by Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged (Member # 7476) on :

??? Carrie seems like a she's made of wood.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

I hated the song Randy Jackson picked out for her. Yes, it's country, but pit her up against Shania? Sorry, it was sandbagging. Shania has a very different, distinctive lower range voice. Plus, the beginning of "I Feel Like A Woman" is hardly worth listening to even when Shania does it. It sounded terrible with Carrie, just barely eaking out the bottom of her range.

I'd have picked out classic Heart for her. One of the 70's albums. Magic Man, or Steamboat Annie.

Based on tonight, though, Bo should win. That acapella song was incredible. He did the Elton John song beautifully. Paula should be ashamed of making him sing the Rolling Stones, though. It was forgetable.

The only one of Vonzell's I really liked was the one Simon picked out for her. I like On the Radio anyway, but she really kicked it. It was excellent.

As for her being upset last Tuesday (I didn't know that), but it might have been because she had to work on Saturday. A friend of mine is a Postmaster...he said that they couldn't find a sub for her route, so she had to work. [Smile]

Posted by Speed (Member # 5162) on :

So I missed last night's show. What was the theme?

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Speed, there wasn;t really a theme, unless judges picking is a theme.
Three songs. One, they picked their own.
One, the regular judges picked.
One, the dude who markets musicians picked. (forget his name)

Bo did really, really well. I actually had chills when he sang hs first song. He sang a capella for his second, and brought the house down, and Paula picked "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" for him, which was the weakest of the three.

Posted by Kayla (Member # 2403) on :

I agree.

And it was Clive Davis.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Wow, I know there is a more recent AI thread, but I could not find it.

Anyway, I thought last night was Bo's worst night ever! oh no!

But, as another thread said, I kind of hope he does come in second. I think Carrie would benefite more from being the American Idol, and Bo would benefit more from being second. He would have less contractual constraints. He already has a music career started, and already has a huge boost from this exposure. Carrie would gte more performance time, which she needs.

OK, let's vote here!

I say Carrie will win, based on last night and Simon's plug for her.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

(OK, duh, this is the thread, I was reading the first page)

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Well, I voted for Bo, and not for Carrie.

She was just too "pitchy" to be considered the "best" of the two. Flat on tones several times, and she couldn't get the emotion -- really get into the songs and crowd the way he does. She needs to learn stage presence.

As one judge said -- Bo could sing the Webster's dictionary and we would probably like it. Because he knows how to get people into his songs.

Carrie made a mistake in picking a Martina McBride song -- no one can sing those the way Martina does, and it made her look shallow in comparison to the way people are used to hearing it.

Farmgirl

Posted by Speed (Member # 5162) on :

Last night was just lame. They get somebody to write some crappy original songs just so they can popularize them and put them on a CD without having to share royalties. Then, after they force these people to sing their weak little songs, they rip them because the songs suck.

It's really a very clever way of popularizing their songs. Both contestants have to perform them like they're the best songs in the world or they'll lose the contest. My wife and I were feeling so sorry for them both last night, selling their souls to The Man. We could just imagine all the other people from the top 12 sitting in the audience saying, "Thank God I'm not up there for this."

That being said, last time Bo did Vehicle sounded much better. I don't know... I really don't care that much who wins. But I do think it would be kind of amusing to have Bo incorporated into the posters and CGI title sequences next year. Carrie looks just like an American Idol, and I'd find it quite entertaining to see some bearded hippie's image mixed in with Kelly Clarkson and Reuben Studdard. Otherwise, whatever. I don't think it matters too much at this point.

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

I think Carrie would benefit more from being the American Idol, and Bo would benefit more from being second.
Actually, Liz, I was thinking just the opposite. Getting second would allow Carrie to make a countryalbum -- because that is obviously where her talent is -- she wouldn't do as well with the types of songs that AI would make her cut for pop.

whoever gets second, realistically, almost has the better deal by not being locked into the AI contract.

I think they were both just very nervous last night. Both of them showed it. And the song choices didn't help.

Farmgirl

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Oh, and how corny that they had to sing the same songs! ew.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

I missed it -- my son had a concert. 300 5th graders playing violin/viola/cello. It was not to be missed, though the girl playing right in front of where I was sitting cracked me up all the way through. She obviously had not practiced much. The girl sitting next to her kept turning around and shooting her dirty looks, because she *was* very distracting. She played really loud during the quieter sections, but she seemed oblivious to the fact that what she was playing held a slim resemblance to what the rest of the orchestra was playing.

I did download the clips up on idolforever.com... It didn't look remarkable. I assume that they got to pick one song from earlier in the season to sing? And Carrie picked Independence Day?? I'd have chosen Alone or Crying. For me, those were her most memorable performances.

I would buy a Carrie album before I'd buy one of Bo's....so my vote went with her, though I couldn't get through to make it real. I tried.

Farmgirl, how much obligation is Number Two under, do you know?

I wonder if Bo would even be able to have his bandmates with him, as one or two.

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

That's a good question, Liz. I think all the semi-finalists are under some sort of rights contract:

quote:
Contestants sign away a wide variety of rights in perpetuity, from their singing to use of their likeness. When the standard "Idol" contract was leaked and appeared on a Web site, one entertainment lawyer called it "the worst rendition of the industry."

I missed last night's due to a church event - -but later heard that Carrie won. I am just disappointed that I didn't get to se Bo perform with Lynard Skynard.

I think they are both winners, and Bo will definately have a contract, so it doesn't really matter who got the AI title.

On Tuesday night, I think Simon Cowell turned the tables. At one point he said to Carrie "you are up against an older, much more experienced singer" etc. etc. That comment right there made Carrie the underdog with America, and we all know how much America loves rooting for the underdog. (of course, anyone who was a true follower and read the AI web pages knew how much older and more experience Bo was already).

Either way, they both win. I predict a Clay Aiken/Rueben Studdard event -- Bo's first CD will outsell Carrie's.

Well, his parents were interviewed on local TV this morning and said that less than 10 minutes after the show, Bo signed with RCA.
