Hi. I really don't know if this is the right place to post this, so I will post on both forums. I hope the moderators don't get too mad.
Well, as some of you already know, I'm brazilian, and a literature major. One of my professors (also a member of Hatrack. He's called Eduardo) asked us to read "Ender's Game" (translated in Portugese, although I've read it before, in English) among other books. Now, I have a paper due in ten days, and I'm working hard on it. The thing is: we are to relate "Ender's Game" to three other books: Frank Herbert's "Dune", Gore Vidal's "Messiah" and a brazilian one (I guess you don't know this one)Euclides da Cunha's "Os Sertões".
We discussed a lot about messianic characters in literature this semester, so I think this is what Eduardo wants us to explore (although he didn't require it). He told us we were free to use the Internet for research, so it would be nice if someone who knows about "Dune" or "Messiah" helped me to find useful links (I know there is Google, but there are so many results...). Well, if someone could give me some advice about the books, it would also be nice.

Thanks in advance (Professor, It's alright I did it, isn't it? You didn't answer my e-mail yet).

Eduardo is a regular, so he should pop up soon enough.

As for the moderators, don't worry about it - if they haven't chewed on me for some of my posts, you're fine. [Big Grin]

Edit: And Eduardo will give you bonus points if you quote one of us and give us credit for it in your sources list. [Big Grin]

What do you want to know about Dune?

Also, does he want you to just talk about the book Dune or the entire Dune series?

Have you read Dune or the series?

seja bem-vindo a hatrack.

I haven't seen Eduardo here for a long time.

He asked us to read only the first book, although I, and some others, have already read the other ones. He told us we could write about them all if we wanted.

I think I already know how I'll fit Paul Atreides in it. John Cave, from "Messiah", is harder to get (sighs)...

/random question

Do you know if Ender's Game has been translated into Spanish as well as Portugese?

Yes, it has...I saw a few copies of it at Boskone when I went to meet OSC...it is avalible in Polish too, I almost picked Kama up a copy and had OSC sign it, but I thought better of it.

Don't suppose you also know the Spanish title?

Try looking here at amazon.com. I don't speak Spanish so I can't say which of those are it for sure, but I would guess it is the first book on that list...it looks like it, but I am not positive.

As I said, I don't speak Spanish....

I tried the link, and now it doesn't work! Do a search at amazon.com under spanish books...Orson Scott Card.....

Sorry...

Ok...if I stated that I'd forseen it, I'd be lying. But it was bound to happend, Camila being in Hatrack. Well...that's no harm. Ask away. Just be sure to follow the proper sourcing procedure, avoid copy+paste, etc.

Bye, everyone
(Sorry, guys, I've been too busy nowadays)
