My Mama said I could have a Hatrack username when I had something to say.

Well, as of 4:45 Central Daylight Time today, I will have been in this world exactly one year.

It's been a good year for the most part. I have especially enjoyed being awwed over by Jatraqueros.

So thank you, and happy birthday to me!

Happy Birthday, Princess Ems!
Beleive it or not, I was thinking to myself yesterday, "I think KP's birthday is any day now". Really!

I say you should get two cakes!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Why, you think she doesn't eat enough sweets?

Two days ago, she managed to steal, and mostly consume, a peanut butter M&M. [No No] I was not pleased. Her grandma feeds her candy, her abba feeds her cake, and she expects me to give her cookies after lunch...

Thank you for the birthday wishes!

I am having a good birthday. We went for a walk and saw duckies and a neighbor. Then I came in and had my birthday lunch. Now I am listening to one of my favorite albums ( Not For Kids Only ). I think I will read a book now, and then maybe have a nap by the end of the album. I have to have my naps to grow, you know. [Smile]

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Did you feed the ducks bread? I loved doing that when I was young. You have to be careful though because sometimes they bite. White bread is the best type to use. Its guarenteed fun. If the ducks are in a park, a picnic in the park is fun. And then either before/after the meal you can feed the ducks. (I think we need a rubber ducky emoticon.....no reason really...)

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

The ducks are behind our complex; we have a pond. And she's not quite got the concept of feeding the food to the ducks yet; she tries to eat it herself. [Big Grin] So we save all the Cheerios and pieces of bread and cookie halves and such that she throws on the floor, and when they fill up the little bowl on the counter that we put them in, we take them down with us and feed them to the ducks while Emma watches and claps and laughs from her stroller. She likes to see the ducks waddle. [Smile]

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

She'd probably like penguins then. They waddle.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Yes, we haven't recieved it yet, but her grandpa got her a family membership to the zoo, and we live two blocks from the train station, and the train stops right across from the zoo entrance, so I'm sure we'll be going often very soon. [Cool] She loves animals.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

That is a good thing. I knew someone who let their daughter be terrified of every animal in existence. She screamed everytime they left the house. The zoo is a great place to go, you'll just have to schedule accordingly (You might want to make sure it isn't "mating season."). Otherwise zoos are great places.

Ketchup Princess,
Since you like Jerry Garcia and David Grisman so much, you will love the music I sent you. Also, have your mommy buy you a Dan Zanes album. It is more music that both of you will love.
This is my favorite, because it has the song "All Around the Kitchen."

You will love it, and so will she!

Sweet? Duck reproduction?

Sweet and sour duck, maybe.

But it sounds more like pork to me.

Are you calling my child a piggy?

Okay, she is, a little. But she's on a growth spurt! [Wink] [Razz]

Posted by TMedina (Member # 6649) on :

I was actually referring to the slang which uses "pork" as a verb rather than a noun. [Razz]

The pun transitions from sweet and sour duck, a Chinese dish to a play on Chinese food and a mildly vulgar term for ducks procreating.

-Trevor

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

[Eek!] I didn't even know that term.

Naughty, naughty Trevor, teaching me dirty slang so I'll get embarassed by even more Charades clues...

I haven't decided yet. I really have no need to hear about ducks reproducing. [Razz] [Angst] [Grumble] [Evil Laugh] [Big Grin] [Razz]

Rubber ducky, you're the one,
You make bathtime lots of fun;

Bo-bo-bo-dee-doh

Rubber ducky joy of joys,
When I squeeze you, you make noise!
Rubber ducky, you're my very best friend, it's true!

Oh, every day when I
Make my way to the tubby,
I find a little fella who's
Cute and yellow and chubby,
Rub-a-dub duckie!

Rubber ducky, you're so fine,
And I'm happy that you're mine,
Rubber ducky, I'm awfully fond of,
Rubber ducky, wish I had a whole pond of,
Rubber ducky, I'm awfully foooooooooooond of you.

Ms. Elizabeth, my present came! We just got the mail, and I carried it all the way upstairs by myself. But Mama won't let me have the papers in it, and they were clearly mine. *grump*

Anyway, we're listening to Solas right now, and I am clapping along and dancing. [Big Grin] Thank you!

Sure, when she's up from her nap. [Big Grin]

Flamingoes were one of my favorites as a young girl. Along with koalas, pandas, and penguins. And, of course, kitties.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

I loved penguins and flamingos. I thought she might like a flamingo. Its one of those rare orange, rather than pink, flamingos. And, whether you choose to believe it or not, I'm not trying to make your daughter weird, I swear! [Razz]

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

KQ,
Keith and family play sometimes until 7AM in the dance tent, and the dance tent is packed the whole time. He is amazing. His grandfather is a famous Cajun musician-Carlton Frank? I think?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Pictures of Ketchup Princess' cake and ice cream are finally up (yes, I had to take pictures for an ebay listing, so emptied the camera first, and my husband put them online to share with friends at another forum. Sorry. I'm lazy about stuff like that sometimes.)

Cake with lighted candle
Emma stuffs her face with cake
Emma decides she likes ice cream, even if it is too cold to eat with one's fingers

And as an apology for waiting so long (and becuase it's up) a more recent one of Emma in headphones, listening to music (Not For Kids Only, Jerry Garcia and David Grisman, if you were curious. It's her favorite album-- well, that and Rabbits Dance, which is Marcia Berman singing songs by Malvina Reynolds.) That's another traditional shot, at least in my family. [Big Grin] You can see the mess she had made in the background before we got her to calm down a little and listen to some music. *sigh*

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

In case anyone wanted to see:

The cake (my "fingerpainting" technique worked wonderfully)
The table set buffet-style to fit the "ducky" theme, including the bathtub holding the drinks [Big Grin]
Here you can see the table setup, including the bubbles decorated with duckies to match the cake-- they were used to entertain the babies, then guests got to take them home
And, just to make everyone hungry, the food we ate (YUM!)

KPC: "Well, we have a cooler, and we can get some ice."

It even quacks when you squeeze the beak. [Big Grin]
