Every year in the springtime, sometime between March and May, my family and I venture to the woods, right behind our house, to hunt for the elusive Morell. It's a little spongy mushroom that grows just for that time of year and is edible. Does anyone else at hatrack do this, do you have any stories to share?

I just moved to my new city. Today I spent an hour hunting down the two farmers markets here, both of which were a bust. Spent another half hour finding and driving to the right exit for the family-owned grocery store. They had morels there, but I decided I didn't really want morels after all, I wanted other mushrooms, which they didn't have. So I came home.

I'm so sad about the farmer's market. I've been spoiled by the fabulous one they had in South Bend. *sniffle*

Come to think of it, Portabella mushrooms are the kind I was looking for this morning. Hmmm.

What, your regular market doesn't have portabellos?

Like I said, I was spoiled by the farmer's market I used to use. They had one big booth there that sold mostly just mushrooms. They had a dozen or more varieties each week. Their mushrooms tasted better than the kind I can get at the grocery store.

They also sold homegrown vine ripened tomatoes, the best I've had since I left my parents home.

The farmers market in South Bend is nice, my Aunt goes there every once in a while. She lives in Goshen.

I own a woods that is reputedly THE morel woods of the area. My neighbors went out of the way to make friends with us as soon as we bought the place.

My dad's family lives in northern michigan, and we used to go mushroom hunting when I was a kid. It's been ten or fifteen years since we did that, though.

Ni!
