I have a huge audition tomorrow, for the Jerusalem Academy of Music! Wish me luck! *dies*

I'm singing three pieces, one in German, one in Hebrew, and one in Italian... and I'm constantly forgetting the words to the lied, so I really hope I remember them tomorrow. I've had a little over ten days to prepare for this... luckily I knew the Italian one beforehand! But I learned the other two in the past week.

Needless to say, I'm a leetle nervous... [Angst]

Cross your fingers for me! I'll let you know what happens after I find out.

Yep, kq, I saw it over there, too. And at first, it looked, oh, shall we say, offensive. Until I took another look and realized it wasn't what I originally thought it was. [ROFL]

Good luck, Raia! [Kiss]

Break a leg!!

Seriously.

Not yours of course, but one or two of the other singers.

I mean, you can't sing if your screaming in pain.

Hey, it worked for Tanya Harding.

Oh wait, no it didn't.

Um.

Nevermind.

Update:

Yesterday was my vocal audition. I prepared the three pieces, like they asked, and sang two of them (they didn't want to hear the Hebrew one). I thought that went ok. I was nervous as hell, but it went pretty well overall. So yay.

Today was part two of the audition saga: The theory entrance exam, dictation, and sightreading.

I think I failed every single part of the exam. Go me.

Not only did I not know hardly any of the answers to any of the questions on the test, the entire exam was in Hebrew... when I learned this stuff, I learned it in English. So half the time I didn't even know what the question was asking, because I didn't know any of the terms in Hebrew.

This shouldn't matter for sightreading and dictation, you say. Well, I guess you haven't met me. For the dictation part, I couldn't figure out what key he said it was in, because it was all Hebrew... he says the key and the starting note, and then you have to write down the rest of the notes he plays. Well, I couldn't figure out what the key was when he said it in Hebrew, so I had to basically make it up. And for sightreading, right, language didn't even play a tiny part in that... and sightreading is something I'm usually good at... and I failed miserably. By that point it was probably just the pressure of failing at everything else (the sightreading was the last thing), but I think I did horribly. Not just a lack of confidence, I really think I did. [Frown]

If I get in it'll be a bloody miracle.

I'm sorry... Can't you request a test in English?

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Well, it's a bit late now. It just didn't occur to me, because I do speak the Hebrew language, I just don't know the musical theory terms.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

You should mention it at the very least, so it doesn't happen to someone else after this.

Sorry, hope you do better next time!

Can you not call back and explain the problem? Surely they'd be at least a little understand and it doesn't hurt to try...

Here's hoping for a bloody miracle!

If it is any consolation, I remember thinking I failed an economics class. Long story short--I took the finale in less then half the time so I could write the procrastinated term paper durring the last 1 1/2 hours of the test.

I didn't check my grade for a year, but I passed with a good grade.

I hope you get it.

Sorry to hear it Raia - don't give up hope quite yet.

We still have some slings and arrows of outrageous fortune lurking somewhere.

On a tangent - is it just me, or has this week been absolutely miserable for a lot of people?

((((Raia))))

If it's any consolation, MOST places I know don't consider the theory placement exam in their decision whether or not to let you into the school. All it does is decide where in the theory classes you'll start. If you're lucky, that's how it'll work there, too.

So, my dad talked to his friend Doron today... he's the head of admissions at the Academy. My dad wanted to let him know that I had had difficulty with the exam because of the language, and wanted to check to see if there was anything I could do about that... Doron looked me up on the computer, and went "um, she's got nothing to worry about... she's already in."

O_O

I do have to complete a summer theory course before next year, but since the year starts in october here, I'm not worried about that, it's only a month I think. I can do august or september.

But... wow! I'm still in shock. Apparently the audition itself counted for more than the theory exam, even though I did fail at that abysmally!

Really, I'm more in shock from how fast that was decided than the fact that I actually made it, even though both of them are quite astounding.

Thanks guys! [Big Grin]
