So it appears that you people rarely if ever talk about music. I don't know whether or not I'm violating some generally accepted code of behavior either by starting a new thread with my first post or by bringing up a largely skirted-around topic, but I have hopes that my blatant new-ness is enough to cover any faux pas that result.

(A quick note, as this is rather a self-introduction: I'm Amber, I'm sixteen, I'm Chinese, I was born in and am a resident of Michigan USA.)

I have rather odd tastes. Mostly I like alternative rock and strange foreign music.

Because I listen to the radio a lot, my tastes run to specific songs rather than bands. Also it means that I like too much to list here, but I'll touch on some key points... I absolutely love 'Self-Esteem' by the Offspring, but I've got no idea what the rest of their stuff sounds like. I am similarly pretty fond of Jet's 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl.' Green Day is always cool, and anything non-pop of Jimmy Eat World's (Work, Praise Chorus, Pain) is good stuff. Linkin Park...to me, a lot of it sounds like the same song played over and over. But the original tunes sound pretty awesome. 'Blister in the Sun' by Violent Femmes I adore, as well as the rock version of Mrs. Robinson by The Lemonheads. It's a cool song.

I like Latin music in general, particularly Tito Puente, Fatal Mambo, Eddie Palmieri. Also I have the Ghost in the Shell soundtrack.

Mozart occasionally finds its way to my CD player, or sometimes Chopin. But mostly Mozart. I've listened to some nice classical flute as well, but nothing regularly.

I also like bands from the seventies-ish. Simon and Garfunkel, especially; Hazy Shade of Winter, America, and The Boxer. And Mrs. Robinson, of course. Some of Jim Croce's stuff I like, but not really all that much--mostly Time in a Bottle, Operator, that sort of thing...Don McLean, too, a little later with American Pie and Starry Starry Night and such. And REM. Who doesn't love 'It's the end of the world as we know it'?

I'm also fond of quite a few soundtracks. Les Miz, West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera I love dearly. Also Guys and Dolls. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but I'm sure I'll remember later.

So. Those are my tastes in music. Be awed. And tell me what you like.

We talk about music all the time. If you check the first 3 or 4 pages of threads, you'll find many topics on individual performers/bands, as well as more general discussions. [Smile]

When I was a teenager, music was my life. Now I don't have one, but I still love music. I like latin music too, especially latin rock. My favorite band is La Ley. They are unbelievable. I was able to see them in concert last summer in Salt Lake City and now I can die.

Ah, Kent, see the thing that I can die after doing was to see A Prairie Home Companion live, and for my 19th birthday, my dad got me tickets to the Greek Theater to do just that. [Smile]

Of course, now it's changed, since I've done that...

I actually did a search on topics containing the word 'music' to make sure there hadn't been any...not sure why that didn't turn up much. Granted, I did find some specific threads, but no general-purpose 'What kind of music do you like?' that are rather prevalent on most boards.

Well, there's the "relaxing music" thread, and then, anything where someone recommends something usually turns into a general discussion, and I'm sure we've even had one of those for real. But we're not constrained by "topics" around here. [Wink]

Music is my life.
Mostly I love Dir en grey, Yoko Kanno, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Maaya Sakamoto, Shiina Ringo, Zero 7, Cocteau Twins, Rasputina, Nine Inch Nails, Early Miles Davis, ect.

That's pretty much where I stand on Offspring. I also like "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)", but I couldn't tell you what any of their other songs are like.

Since I've been playing my guitar a lot, I've really come back to the new generation singer/songwriter/guitar people such as: John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Marc Broussard, David Ryan Harris, James Taylor, and so on.

Usually, I cycle out of a music phase every 6 months to a year. Next, I'll go back to R&B/rap, with a brief stopover at ole school motown.

I think I've touched upon my lack of culturally rich muscial tastes in the past, so I'll tackle classical for once. I should definitely listen to it more, but I'm a fan of Ravel and Debussy. I also like Copeland and Tchaikovsky. Man, I think it's time to raid my old music history cds...
