What are the symptoms of it?

Swollen feet was what made me go to the doctor. There are others, but I think it can be fairly high without symptoms. That's why it's important to get it checked regularly.

Telpy, I think the best way to tell is to go to the doctor, and have them use the little pump thingy. Then, if they say, "ooh, your blood pressure's high" you'll know that's what you have! [Kiss]

Just don't do it when zombies are around.
(10 points for whoever can name the reference).

Zombies! [Eek!]

[Wink]

Well, my fingers are a bit swollen, had trouble getting my rings on/off. And my ears felt like they were under pressure... but that might just be from the cold I have.

Telp,

most of the major chain stores have blood pressure monitors in their pharmacy areas. This is also true of the chain pharmacies. Next time you visit Walgreen's, Walmart, Meijer's, etc. just go check your pressure on one of their machines - they also have charts posted letting you know approximate ranges of normal vs. high pressure.

Those are weird symptoms, though. I wonder if that's how things started with the Hamburg toads.

Many fire stations offer free blood pressure checks (at least in our state). You can walk into any fire station and tell them you need your blood pressure checked and they will do it and tell you what it is.

Do you know of any reason why they do that, Farmgirl?

Telp, hypertension is a hidden disease and there are no symptoms. Secondary symptoms after the hyptertension is causing damage to the body, yes, but that takes a long time usually.

I have made several assumptions on why firstations do it, but I've never asked. Hmmm.

I does run in my family. My Grandpa on my mother's side was the first male of his family to live past the age of 50. All the rest died of heart attacks. The only reason he lived so long was because of modern medicine and alot of exercise. In fact when his knees gave out and he couldn't work out every day he died a year later.
