Hatrack River

Flowing invisibly between databytes
The webnaught strays
In the harbor of Hatrack River.

Helpful dockmen haul the boat ashore.
You are fed and greeted.
A local god drops by and says hello.

Everything you wanted to know is
Here, at Hatrack River.

Friends to be found, stories to be told,
Landmarks made,
Abundant music, and laughter,
Old-fashioned photos to show who you're talking to,
Occasional picnics to bring the world together,
Always conversations to take you late into the night.
Debate, and love.

Come home, my friend, to Hatrack River.

Cool. I'm still reading Journey to the West and that could almost be lifted right out of it.

[Cool]

Now, make it rhyme and put it in an iambic pentameter.

Or, write a sonnet with the same meter and the following rhyming scheme:

AA
AB
BA
AA
CD
DD
CC
DC
EF
GF
EG
GE
FG
GE

*thwaps Jonathan*

When people write you poetry it is a gift.

You do not then turn around and give them an assignment.

It's beautiful!

Very touching.

I never said it wasn't a fantastic song. You think it didn't touch me? The fact that I didn't ignore it means that it's a real poem (today, anyone throws in a post-modern, meaningless, random array of words and calls it fantastic poetry), and I like it. Besides, my "assignment" is an impossible one, unless you invent a language (and the last one invented got a bit out of hand).

Seriously, I like it; and was using the sonnet as a joke.

I'm working on it, okay? Give me some time. It takes longer to put passion in sonnets. (But it's usually worth it)

Hey, only if you want to do it. I was basically joking.

It is... [Eek!]

You've smacked me with your glove, and you don't expect me to respond to your challenge??

I am offering you an unpassable challange. You may ask OSC to help you, but you're essentially limited by the English language - unless you invent words. That rhyme structure in an iambic pentameter? Impossible!

hey jenny maybe it can become the hatrack anthem.

Well, I was going to go for just a plain sonnet first!

I've been taking a ride down the River, revisiting old familiar and beloved places. I wrote this poem to a community that embraced me.

Unfortunately, I never did write that sonnet.

Beautiful. Anyone want to try setting it to music? Though... I'm not sure how OSC will take being compared to a god.
