Yes, on it's way to beating Titanic!

Truly, I will never be content until Titanic no longer has the record.

Every now and then I find out something very disturbing about someone I think the world of. Titanic, rivka? *shakes head sadly*

Dagonee
P.S., We have the same post count.

*disgusted* The whole board is going nuts over ( [Razz] ) Star Wars, and you're giving me a hard time about a sweet, romantic movie with a great soundtrack?

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

You like the soundtrack, too?

All my illusions are shattered! [Razz]

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

As it happens, the CD case it sitting less than a foot away. (Now that I have a 1G card for my Palm, I was loading lots of music onto it.)

Posted by Taalcon (Member # 839) on :

Come on, as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings prove, oversaturation does not a bad movie make.

I too enjoy Titanic, and love the soundtrack...

...but still would love for Episode III to cream it.

Celine Dion is the opiate of the masses.

I want to see Titanic sink too (I know, lamest pun ever), but I've given up hope [Frown] . Lord of the Rings couldn't do it. Spider-man couldn't do it. I don't think that Star Wars can do it... What the hell does it take!!?? [Confused] Why did that movie make so much money in the first place? I'm not saying that it's not an okay film, but were there really that many Leo obsessed teenage girls with lots of time and money to waste? More than there are Star Wars/Lord of the Rings/Comic book geeks? Impossible! I smell shifty bookkeeping.

I have NEVER seen Titanic.

I will NEVER see Titanic.

*nyah*

Shan....Titanic is incredible.
It changed me. Oh, and when you see it, see it with someone else, on a big tv.

Edit: Star Wars is also incredible. All 6 movies.

Never is a very long time.

I bet it does beat it....

Keep in mind that the main reason LOTR didn;t was that the movies were over 3 hours long....each....and that limits the amount of times it can be shown every day.

The Sith will rule it all.

Down with Titanic

Ahhhh - time is merely the essence of being, rivka *grin*

I still don't thing so. Titanic made $600,788,188 domestic. The closest film is the Original Star Wars, which still missed that mark by about 140 million, and that's including the income from multiple re-releases. RotS will have to do A LOT better than any other Star Wars movie to overtake it. It's off to a good start, but realistically, we can expect a big drop after opening weekend. And worldwide, Titanic doubled the income of the nearest Star Wars film (TPM).

Posted by Jay (Member # 5786) on :

So any predictions on how much it will do for the weekend?

I’ll go for 160 million.

Titanic was over three hours, too.

Sadly, there's no way Ep. III will beat it.

If only Lucas had found a way to make Anakin a spunky faux-Irish lad. And had let us see Natalie Portman topless.

Posted by JonnyNotSoBravo (Member # 5715) on :

Heh, think Anakin should have been played by Colin Farrell?

I don't think I want to see Natalie Portman topless. She's always been a child in my mind, ever since The Professional. I'm probably going to have to avoid Closer for the rest of my life because she plays a stripper in it, I think.

The movie theater was packed, but only sold out about one show ahead. They were running 4 auditoriums, I think, maybe 5.

If it's as crowded tomorrow, I think it will hit at least $140M for F-S-S. Outside shot it opens with $200M for the long T-F-S-S opening weekend.

I used to say this too. Then one time Ruth's family was watching it, so I joined in and watched the last half.

I greatly regret that decision.

I saw Titanic in a theatre for free just before it went out of theatres. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. I, too, would love to see that record fall, though I doubt it'll happen any time soon.

The problem with any science Fiction Movie beating Titanic is that not only did the teenage girls with a Leo fixation and money watch it, but so did their mothers, and their grandmothers, aunts, sisters etc, etc. And any dude trying to show his sensitive side went to see it too. Now mom and grandma aren't hardly going to see Revenge of the Sith until they are forced to when it comes out on video

I would like to throw in an X-factor.

Star Wars III is the BEST looking film i think i've ever seen. It visually blew me away and took me to far away worlds unlike anything I've ever seen. Obi-Wan was one of the COOLEST characters i've seen in a film since Brad Pitt in SNATCH, or maybe him as Tyler Durden.

Titanic was good and flawed.

Star Wars III is great and flawed.

But hey, you've got some serious sex appeal in Revenge of the Sith. Come on! Yoda! Hello?! [Wink] Kidding. Seriously, Ewan and an older, cuter, better-acting Hayden are some nice eye candy that are drawing many ladies I'm sure. Maybe not at Leo scale, but there will be some measureable effects I think.

I'm with Dagonee on RotS having a great extended weekend. More of the non-fanatics bringing their kids and teens looking for entertainment.

Well, $85.5 million for Th-F. Lessee... $515.3 million to go... *glares at mother's copy of Titanic on the shelf...*

*plugs ears and ignores all the Titanic-bashers*

*sings My Heart Will Go On*

I say 150 million for opening weekend, which still beats the old record set by The Matrix.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Hmmmph. Well, I am not seeing RotS this weekend, and now rivka has gone and stuck that stupid song from Titanic in my head! I coudn't listen to Top 40 FM radio for months, and even AM was bad.

How could you, rivka? (wailing in agony)

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

*pat pat*

You know the only way to exorcise it, neh?

You have to see the movie. [Evil]

Yep. You, Tom and Jay are all peas in a pod.

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

Well, I was way off. It grossed 158 M for T-F-S-S and 108 M for the weekend itself.

Still pretty darn good.

Posted by Jay (Member # 5786) on :

Hey, how did I get in that pod? I didn’t say anything about Natalie Portman. Not that I’d turn down a date with her or anything, but I made no claims of wanting to see her topless.

By the way, how about my prediction! 160 Million only off by 1.5 million. Sweet. Now for my next prophecy…………..

LOL....

I went into Titanic expecting something terrific. I came out thinking "That was SO stupid!"

During the movie I kept think "Just KILL these two idiots and get it OVER with."

Didn't mind the soundtrack, much.
