This is just sad.

She's almost certainly got some kind of dementia. Jail is a little harsh. She should be in assisted living.

I was thinking the same thing. I doubt the officer(s) on the scene had much else they could do but take her in. But there are other routes they could have gone once she was in custody.

And I think the department could have taken some pains to try to keep the press out of it. I know reporters listen to police scanners, etc. to catch things they can cover, but I have a hunch it's more likely a reporter was alerted by someone at the department in a more direct fashion.

That photo is anything but funny. It makes my heart hurt to look at it, knowing the story.

Is anyone else reminded of Lobelia Sackville-Baggins?

Well, yes, it is sad. But it is funny too. At least she didn't hurt anyone in her dementia, which happens way to often. Well, I guess she did attack that cop, but I think he could take her! And she will get help for sure now. I bet they just took her downtown and called her family. But it’s all over with now and we can laugh at it.

It is very sad.
I don't know if any of the W Mass Hatrack folks remember my story of the woman who arrived in my driveway at 2 AM of a crisp, 10 degree winter morning, but I called the police, and they took her to the hospital. They were incredibly kind to her, and the story is actually pretty funny, but sad overall.
