...according to Muppet Central.com, August 9th is the date slated for the release of this set.

In addition to all 24 episodes of the first season, sketches and songs previously seen only in the United Kingdom (and on Nickelodeon when it briefly reran the show) will be included. As will new "making of" material, the rarely-seen promo reel Jim Henson made to pitch the show...and one of two earlier pilots for a Muppet TV series.

(It'll either be "The Muppet Valentine Show" or "The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence")

Really, REALLY looking forward to this. The only thing I'm worried about is that Disney is trying to link the promotion of this much-anticipated release to the release of the "Muppets Wizard of Oz" DVD...which really wasn't all that great a special.

It was kinda funny, the Muppet Wizard of Oz, but mostly just that little shrimp guy. Other than him there wasn't really much else to it.

It didn't compare to Muppet Treasure Island or especially my favorite Muppet Christmas Carol

Hooray! I will definitely buy this, even if it IS linked to the horrendous "Muppets Wizard of Oz" special.

Yay for the Muppet Show! [Big Grin]

Aaaaah! They're planning a Dark Crystal sequel? [Angst] I loved that movie! Please don't do something sucky...

It's being written by the original script writers. If they get Brian Froud involved too, then I'll be at ease.

The first season of the Muppet Show will be interesting to own. Except for Kermit and Rowlf, most of the characters were brand new. The ones who became the "backstage stars" (Fozzie, Piggy, Gonzo) went through a long, sometimes painful to watch growing period.

Season One had some great stuff, but it's in Season Two that the show really came together into what made the show a hit.

My favorites are mostly near the end, in 4 and 5.

I haven't seen the reruns in so long, I really have no idea which season is which.

"I am not a shrimp, I am a KING PRAWN!"

Mom's got several Muppets episodes on DVD already, I wonder if her discs match the boxed set...
<edit> I recognize a couple of the guests from her discs but certainly not all of them. So her discs are probably parts of a best-of thing.

Yes, this compilation has no connection to "The Best of the Muppet Show" DVDs Columbia/TriStar released a few years ago. Other than it being The Muppet Show on DVD, of course.

That's so cool. Now I wish I could find the "The Muppet Movie" on DVD for a reasonable price.

My favorite is "Muppets Take Manhattan." My family and I quote that movie SO much and I didn't realize it until it came on TV a few months ago and it seemed to be echoing our own dialogue. [Smile]

The Muppet Show is really the best though, I'm glad it's getting to DVD. What I really want is the first 25 years of Sesame Street (somehow) on DVD before I have kids. [Big Grin] That would be awesome.

I bought my copy at (of all places) the grocery store a year or so ago. Would have been less than $15 because I wouldn't have bought it at all if it were more.

I got "The Muppet Movie" DVD on sale at Krogers for $9.99.

Not much in the way of extras...but it does have the cool, funny "test reel" Jim Henson and Frank Oz did to see if the Muppets could work in an outdoors setting.

I got the DVD 4-pack off Amazon, I think for 30-40 bucks. It included the Original Three (Caper was my childhood fav, Muppet Movie is my current favorite) and Muppets from Space. If I got Christmas Carol and Treasure Island, my collection would be complete!

My favorite Muppet Show was the one with Spike Milligan. I can't remember much of it though, except for the bit where Milligan offends Sam the American Eagle by dropping his pants to reveal his Union Jack flag shorts...

The Great Muppet Caper was the best Muppet film. It had the best star cameos. It also had by far the best soundtrack.

The Happiness Hotel
Steppin' Out With a Star
Night Life
Hey, A Movie!
