Anyone see Van Morrison on his Magic Time 4-stop tour here in the USA?

Anyone want to go, but missed it?

I was in Atlantic City last night and I thought it was great, Van was his normal no-talking-to-the-crowd self, but his performance was probably a 7 or 8 on a scale of 10.

PLEASE tell me I am not the only Van Fan here!!?

I'm a huge Van fan. Have been since high school, when I dug out my dad's old vinyl collection and listened to Hard Nose The Highway and Veedon Fleece. Now I own pretty much every album he's ever released on cd. I would love to see him live, but I don't think he'll ever be coming close enough to Edmonton that I'll be able to do so. Maybe he'll play in Vancouver eventually, which would be awesome, because that's a trip I'd be willing to make.

I am a Brown-Eyed Girl, and I named my last van (it was a Ford Windstar) "Morrison"

I guess everyone can survive, based on the responses I've gotten from this thread... [Frown]

I never thought I'd see the day, but Van Morrison came to Edmonton. Of course, I got floor seats, and it was perhaps the greatest concert I've ever attended.

There were warnings that he would start right at 7:30, the time printed on the ticket. Exceedingly rare for an act to start at the stated time, but true to the rumors, the show started right on time. Unfortunately, a contract dispute has caused Van to perform for a set 90 minutes, no more and no less. He made up for the shorter set by putting on a hell of a show.

One can't really go into a Van Morrison concert with any expectations. He's known for a wide variety of moods, and is said to often rush through a set. That being said, he seemed to be in high spirits in Edmonton. He laughed, kidded a bit with the audience, and even broke out his guitar to play the first 10 seconds of "There was an old lady, who swallowed a fly..."

He sang some big hits and crowd pleasers like Bright Side of the Road, Moondance, Domino, Brown-eyed Girl and Gloria. I was disappointed to hear some people complaining that he only sang a few of his hits. It's hard to fathom why people come to a concert expecting to hear the artist's greatest hits cd. Die hard Van fans would've loved the set, which included One Irish Rover, Star of the County Down, Enlightenment, and Stranded.

On top of all that, you can always count on Van Morrison to have a top notch band, and this tour is no exception. Van himself plays a mean sax. If you're a fan of Van, you really owe it to yourself to try and catch one of his shows. Old age hasn't dulled him one bit.

This is one of his best performances, IMO. I really like that song and he sings it amazingly there.

If you like that, you would probably really enjoy his Live at Montreux dvd. It has a concert from the same era, with the same band, as well as another longer concert from 1980. Both fantastic performances. It would be great to see him in a smaller, more intimate venue like that. I'm hoping he liked Edmonton enough to come back and play at the folk fest. He's invited every year, so it's a possibility!
