Yesterday was not a great day for Daddy Raven.

Should you use your son for a shield? I mean, he held a flower for momma. I didn't think momma would squirt him with the cold cold hose while he held the flower. He was safe. So I picked him up and used him as a shield to get the nasty hose from momma. That wasn't being a bad daddy, was it?

How about letting him sleep on the uncomfortable floor where he fell asleep until after the silly movie was over, instead of putting him in his comfortable bed right away. Was that a major abuse?

Finally, I checked out my bike to make sure it worked well. Then I checked out momma's bike. I didn't check out Sasha's bike because he doesn't know he has one. He has a special day coming up Friday and will get it then. However that meant he spent too much time yesterday pouting and asking me how he was going to keep up with Papa and Mama on his little car. (Truth is he has a motorized four wheeler that looks much more comfortable than my bike. He seems not to worry about that.)

OK, it wasn't being a bad daddy when I didn't tell him about his upcoming present. But was it a bad daddy to enjoy it? Was it bad to smile whenever he begged to know when he was getting a bike? Even just a little?

If I am a bad daddy, that means my other new threads are going to be in trouble.

No, you're not a bad daddy. I think "never disturb a sleeping child " is a time honored credo.

And we are highly amused right now every time Andrew says "I want a lightsaber!" and we say "Why do you think anyone would buy you a lightsaber? You'll have to make your own". (Yes, we have one in the garage waiting for his birthday).

My theory (as a parent) is that you have to enjoy these little victories over the rugmonkeys while you can, because soon enough they will become teenagers who know sooooo much more than you [Roll Eyes]

Sounds a lot like what my dad used to tell us when we were kids - that they'd invented color in the late 50's, when he was a kid. [Smile]
