So I went to check my email. Down.
I went to check my bank account online. Down.

I wondered if our router at home was out, so I checked Hatrac, and it appeared like a shining beacon telling me that the internet was still there.

But google, is down.
Paypal is down.
And everything you guys are linking to is down.

I'm stranded on an island! [Cry]

Hmm... I just got a lot of calls from my users having internet problems. I thought it was our proxy server or router....

Sounds like a problem with DNS resolution; what errors are you getting, if any?

It is only me that is stranded here. Hubby says everything is up at his work.

but what better place to be stranded?

It could be regional, maybe a backbone is down somewhere.

A deadly virus that is making its way across the internet!!! Run for your lives!

You are right, Farmgirl.

I think I will start a journal...

Yeah, DNS issue.

Try pinging google.com, then try pinging 216.239.39.99, then post the results.

Oh, and try going to 216.239.39.99 .

June 15, 2005

I arrived today. The island seems to be well inhabited with an odd, but endearing civilization headed up by a middle aged writer.

Unfortunately, it seems that only the natives can see me. Whenever I try to depart, I am invisible to the rest of the world. Or it, to me.

At least I have a good food supply. And the baby too. I think we'll be okay here.

Yup, it is a DNS issue.

Sorry, it was me. I was cleaning up my desktop, and I accidentally deleted the internet.

What a pretty island

It is though, isn't it? But I hear you shouldn't venture in that direction...

*waves vaguely in a direction*

There are dead horses over there.

There are several things which could cause a DNS issue. Hopefully its just your ISP's servers being a bit wonky. Who is your ISP? I'll see if I can find some nameserver IPs for you to put in manually in your settings.

However, it could be that its DNS lookup on your home computer that's having the issues due to spyware or a virus.

There are other possibilities as well, but those two are most likely (unless you've recently changed ISPs).

It would have to be on our whole network, since both computers that are currently on are having the same problem. They could both be infected, but I doubt it. We have a firewall, spyware and virus scan.

Our ISP is Qwest and MSN.

Actually, it could be your firewall, possibly. Do you use zonealarm?

But first, change your DNS in TCP/IP to 205.171.3.65 and 205.171.2.65 . Those are the current Qwest DNS servers, and I have verified they work (very speedily too).

I thought the internet only went down in Sri Lanka. Who knew?

My internet was being tempermental mid morning. But it seemed to only be me. Other folks in the office were okay.

Maybe this is the problem
