I just put the Moulin Rouge CD in here at work.

Aaaah, I love this movie.

If you can manage to get through the first part, you're hooked... and even start to love the wacky beginning. If you don't make it... you probably think it's a stupid movie.

Le Sigh.

I saw the very beginning.

I didn't get past it.

My gift is my song...and this one's for you.

At that moment, I loved Ewan McGregor.

Oh, me too. Wow.

And so did Satine. (sp?)

I know the beginning is wacky... I love it now...but the first time I was really perplexed.

I loved it the first time I saw it, but I watched it with the guy I was dating and my roommates, and they couldn't even sit through it.

The first time I went to watch it with friends I turned it off after five minutes, it looked stupid.

But a year later they made me watch it all the way through and I love it.

Great soundtrack.

I have only seen the movie once. It wasn't the best of conditions ( a military contract 737 flying from Japan to Florida). On the aircraft there were maybe 10 women, and that's counting the 6 flight attendants. You could hear a groan of horror from all the guys on the plane. It would be an understatement to say almost every guy hated the movie.

While I don't think it's too much to think a guy could like the movie... I do think it's more of a woman's thing.

Posted by Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged (Member # 7476) on :

Again, I think was the conditions....being stuck on a plane for 24 hours, especially on the small 737, is not a place to enjoy a movie like that.

I liked it at "Fortunately, at that moment, a narcoleptic Argentinian fell through my ceiling."

Posted by Katarain (Member # 6659) on :

Yes! That was a turning point, wasn't it?

I like him! The boy has talent!

Nothing funny. I just like talent.

I love this movie! I am a soon to be 40 yr old man. It is my guilty pleasure.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

"He's got a huuuge talent!"

ROOOOOOOOOOOX-ANNE!!!!

Someone had to say it. That and the very first opening song are the two best in my opinion.

Posted by Katarain (Member # 6659) on :

I love Moulin Rouge quotations. [Smile]

I also love the movie "Where the Heart Is."

It's sooooooooooo good! Anybody else see it?

Oh come on! Come what May is definitely the BEST song in the entire movie!!

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

I love the film. I think it's just shy of brilliant.

My husband slept through half of Moulin Rouge; I enjoyed it some, but mostly because Ewan was in it. [Big Grin]

Haven't seen Where the Heart Is.

I do, however, have My Big Fat Greek Wedding and O Brother, Where Art Thou? practically memorized. [Big Grin]

Posted by Katarain (Member # 6659) on :

Oooh. kq, those are great ones, too. [Smile]

Such awesome movies!

We're in a tight spot!

Come What May's not bad. It's 3rd place on my list, just after the Elephant Medley, which a friend and I used to belt together as we walked across campus on many occasions. You get some weird looks doing that.

I do love Roxanne, though. Especially Ewan/Christian's part.

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

I heard the song from which I was made for loving you baby, you were made for loving me was sampled. Quite disco.

Posted by johnsonweed (Member # 8114) on :

I have gone through and tried to identify all of the sampled songs, too. What a challenge!

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

I find myself singing Complainte de la Butte from the soundtrack the most.

Closely followed by Come What May and Roxanne.

But when I get together with friends the only song we ever belt out is the Elephant Love Medley. Edit to add: We also belt out "Your Song"

And "Like a Virgin" is hilarious, I almost died laughing when I first saw it.

I need to get the second soundtrack. I hear it has a lot of the songs missing from the first one..

Plus the movie version of Come What May.

And Like a Virgin!

Hehe... the jello boobies were fuuuuuuuunny.

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

Actually, the Like a Virgin is the one part I don't like. I always fast-forward through it. It's just disturbing. I don't want to be sung to about sex when those are the people on the screen.

Posted by Katarain (Member # 6659) on :

Well yeah... but I love to hate that part. It's sooooo creepy. Makes me cringe every time. But it's also sooo ridiculous. I think I have fast forwarded through it, too.

*sings*

"I will love you! Till my dying day!"

This movie is my ultimate summer night movie... and those kinda gothy minor cords that come up every once in a while during the music really give me the shivers...serious nostalgia and loss and beauty.

I prefer the second soundtrack disc over the first. I like the film version of Come What May.

One of my other favorites is Shakespeare in Love.

There's a second soundtrack?! I need this!

And I agree with Tom (which happens every so often [Wink] ) wholeheartedly.

Kat, is there any moment in which you don't like Ewan McGregor? I know such a thing doesn't exist in my life... [Razz]

I also adored him at the very beginning, when he's at the first rehearsal, and just starts singing "The hills are alive!" and everyone is like "ooooh!" [Big Grin]

I think Moulin Rouge is one of the best movies I have ever seen. My wife hasn't gotten much into it. The first time, she wouldn't pay attention to it at all -- it was too weird. Then I started playing the soundtrack a bit and got her to enjoy the music. Now, I'm not sure how she feels about it. Sadly, that is one of the great movies I enjoy but do not own.

The only part of MR I don't like is the scene where she's acting all turned on to his poetry. That's just downright embarassing.

Other than that the colours and the music are gorgeous.

... Maybe I'll pull it off the shelf and watch it again today.

Since this is a thread about awesome movies, USA is playing the Indiana Jones movies right now. I love Harrison Ford.

I've never seen it. I own the soundtrack, too (a gift), although I've never listened to it. I should watch it one day, but it never had any particular attraction for me (yes, even Ewan McGregor).
