Because movies take time to make. Specifically, they're short an Aslan voice right now. I hope they don't get James Earl Jones, I would keep expecting him to lean towards Lucy and say "You must take your place in the great circle of life..."

It seems like his voice was different enough as Darth Vader. I was musing elsewhere about Lewis' choice to make the antagonist a witch, though at least she's white for a change.

Jadis was based partially on Hans Christian Anderson's "The Snow Queen", so in both the book and film she'll have a white/ice/snow look going on.

I never realized Jadis was the White Witch and the Lady of the Green Kirtle when I was originally reading the books. I mean, I only sort of could believe it reading them as an adult. I guess Tash becomes more important in the later books, but Tash is also a chick... of sorts.

Tash isn't a chick.
Tash is a vulture-headed demon, with no gender ever given in the text. Calormens refer to Tash as "he", but when Tash turns up Tash seems to be a monstrous, sexless being.
The Lady of the Green Kirtle/Queen of Underland was identified as Jadus reincarnated only in the late-90s Harper Collins editions of the Chronicles...something HP later admitted they did in speculation, not in actual info from the text or Lewis' writings. So it was dropped in more recent printings.

Is that so? I just assumed that Lady of the Green Kirtle was Jadis when I read it. Though it isn't a suprise that I'd be wrong again.

Some Narnians speculated in "The Silver Chair" that the Lady was "part of the same crew" of evil witches from the North where Jadis once dwelt...and in a letter Lewis said that the lady could be considered a "sister" of sorts to Jadis.
He seemed to mean non-biologically...more in the sense they were the same sort of person. But the Lady was a different character.
