The BBC is hosting them.

I should wait until mine finish downloading to post this, but they're only available for a limited time.

I wish I hadn't missed the first 5.

thanks dag. I'm downloading then now. To bad 1-5 are already down. How is the sound quality?

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

I'm 3% done. I'm downloading them all at once.

So I don't know how the sound quality is yet. [Smile]

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

Wow. Only 22% done.

The /. effect continues.

This is the sort of thing where bittorrent-style downloading would have been useful.

If you're pressed for time, don't bother with the even numbered symphonies. Everyone knows odd numbered symphonies are always the best!

DOH! Apparantly, when you close the last firefox window, the download window closes.

I did not know that. [Frown]

but...but...six is so lovely!

Hmm. All movements, one file. Very obnoxious.

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

Well, they all just downloaded in about 3 minutes. Listening to 9th now. [Smile]

BTW, they're 128 bit. Enough to get all I can from my laptop speakers, but I bet the flaws are noticable on a real system.

I'd forgotten how much I actually like the sixth symphony.

I never agreed with the even/odd rule. The sixth has always been my favorite, if I were forced to choose. And there isn't a single one of the nine, even or odd, that I don't enjoy listening to.

I am quite disappointed, though. This would have to happen the week that I'm back on the dial-up horse. I've already got plenty of Beethoven CDs (all the symphonies and loads of other works), and their ripped mp3 versions, but I would very much enjoy hearing what the BBC has to offer.

If you're talking Star Trek movies, though, the even/odd rule is rock solid.

Oh, no doubt about that.

Actually, Re: ST, even/odd stopped working at number 10.

Hey, I liked #10.

I have them all.
It seems as though since I got them for free I should be able to give them out, but that's actually redistributing, and I'm not sure how the beeb feels about that.

Good find Dag. Beethoven is my favorit of the classic composers.
