Our modem is not working. (It may be the transformer, according to KPC.)

We signed multiple papers stating that this is not our modem, it belongs to SBC.

So we called SBC.

According to them, it's our modem, and we are responsible for fixing or replacing it, because it's no longer under warranty. [Wall Bash]

Jeff has gotten to the point where he wouldn't argue any more, except for we really can't afford a new modem.

So*, I'm at the library, and will get to Hatrack just as much as I possibly can, which probably won't be much for a while.

(The solution SBC offered was, renew our contract with them, get a new modem free after rebates. We are moving in a month, and are not sure yet where we will end up. DSL is not available in some of the neighborhoods we may end up in, and there would be a penalty if we cancelled our contract with them, even if it was because they don't offer service where we move. [Wall Bash] [Mad] )

In other news, Ketchup Princess took 4 steps in a row today! [The Wave] [Party]

A song for Ketchup Princess. [Smile]

WooHooo! That ketchupprincess really is growing up fast!

Our internet was on the fritz for a while. Today the CableOne guy came and monkeyed with a few things and discovered that the wiring is extremely shody. So we have to make due.

Yes, she is. [Smile]

We went and shot off fireworks last night. She LOVED it! A pyro--um, I mean child-- after my own heart. She even insisted on "lighting" two herself. (I'm not that bad of a mother. Stop thinking that. I held her on one side, the punk on the other, as far apart as possible, had her uncle "Negin"* put the ball in the tube, lit the fuse, and let her watch over my shoulder as I ran.)

*She has recently started calling her uncle Kevin "Negin". It must be a hard name to say; he apparently called himself "Metin". She also calls Jeff's mom "Gitga", her approximation of "Grandma". My mom wants to know what she's going to call my sister Megan if Kevin is "Negin". [ROFL]

Aw, kq, it's too bad about the modem thingy. But if it's just a transformer, it ought to be not too expensive to fix, and just about any electronics guy ought to be able to fix it for you. If you like, you can always come visit me and get it done for a buck or less. [Big Grin] We'll miss seeing your quirky posts. :

Yay for kp! Before you know it, she'll be running for her life . . .

I wondered where you were! I just figured you were busy with pre-moving stuff.

Sucks about the modem. [Razz]

Yay on the newly-toddling KP! [Big Grin]

I have two, maybe three, dsl modems - you're welcome to them and see if any of them work for you [Smile]

I can bring them by sometime this week- just e-mail me or give me a call.

Awesome! [Kiss] for Coccinelle!

We can try that, definitely. It is not the transformer, sadly. Our other solution is to sign up for high-speed dial-up with NetZero for a month, until we move (they offer a month-by month, and their "you won't believe it's not broadband" is $14.95 a month.) Either way, we should be back online in a few days. [Party]

Of course, now that I've said she can walk, Emma hasn't done it since. [ROFL] Of course, she's had a rough day or two. I'm sure she'll be really doing it soon.

*goes to e-mail to get Coccinelle's phone number*

Just to be nit-picky, your DSL "Modem" (as you put it) is not a modem at all. It's more aptly called a "Bridge." See, "Modem" stands for "Modulate/Demodulate" and refers to taking digital information (such as what your computer produces) and modulating (or, simply, changing it) it into an analog signal (such as a standard telephone line uses). DSL lines are purely digital and require no modulation at all. So, "modem" is incorrect in this context.

(true -- but if you call your DSL provider -- they will say "check your modem" and they call it a modem and it is usually sold by that name, to make it easier for users to understand)

Then how come it says "modem" on the side and is referred to as such by SBC? [Razz]

I can't help it if DSL providers hire dimwits. [Razz]

Hooray!

Coccinelle's modems didn't work, but one of her transformers did (even though the one from the electronics store didn't. [Dont Know] ) [Kiss] and [The Wave] for Coccinelle!

The Ketchup family is back online! w00t! [Party]
