I'm coming to the OSC signing on August 16th. (I'll be in that general area for the week actually.)

Is anyone else planning to go to that?

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

I really wanna do that. I'll call it a birthday present to Porter.

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

When's your birthday?

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

I'd like to go, too.

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

About a week.5 beforehand.

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

Anyway, I guess my point is, we should use the signing and my semiannual presence as excuses to do dinner or have a party...or something. [Smile]

edit: add Porter's birthday to that list of excuses.

Ketchup Princess and I will be in SLC for a several-hours-long layover on the 26th. But I think we have to go see my husband's grandma, so no dinner with Jatraqueros. [Cry]

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

Bring your husband's grandma along!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

She will have just had surgery, so we have to go see her, she can't come out to dinner or anything. I'm all for her getting to meet her great-granddaughter, but I guess I'm in a [Grumble] kind of mood.

Posted by whiskysunrise (Member # 6819) on :

That is my birthday.

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

Let's have a birthday party for me down here in Orem sometime around there. [Smile]

Posted by whiskysunrise (Member # 6819) on :

But it's my birthday, we should have it in Salt Lake.

I'll be passing through on the 9th of September and then coming back through on the 12th. I'd love to run into some of you.

Just around time for Billtmas.

Pina coladas!!

I think I'll go to both Utah signings. I don't suppose anyone's lifestyle would allow them to camp out at my house and ride with me to the second one. Going to one in a Library somehow seems cooler than going to one at the Mall. Even if it is a mall owned by the LDS church.

Posted by MattB (Member # 1116) on :

I worked at the Davis County Library for a few years, and therefore I worry about the accuracy of the August 17th address. The Farmington library has absolutely no space for a book signing or any such event; with a headliner like OSC it would be reminiscent of a mosh pit, except with more books and a quieter bass line. The auditorium (which is where OSC appeared last time he hit the DC) is in the Bountiful branch. I think I'll email one of my old library peeps and find out what's up.

Edit: Oh, and I might be in Utah for the first time in many months this August. Maybe I'll drop in on one of them.

Posted by Speed (Member # 5162) on :

Oh sure, all this goes down a month after I move out of Utah. You people all suck. [Razz]

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

Yup. We waited until you were gone to celebrate.

Posted by Epictetus (Member # 6235) on :

I'll be at the one in the mall. I hadn't heard about one in the library though, so I might go there too. MattB's right though, there really isn't much room in the Farmington Library, Bountiful is better suited in that regard. *shrugs* I suppose it'll work out either way.

Edited to make sense.

Posted by Brinestone (Member # 5755) on :

We don't live that far from SLC, so if everybody wanted to come over here for cake or something after the signing, you're welcome.

Posted by hansenj (Member # 4034) on :

[Cry] [Cry] [Cry]

That is all...

Posted by gnixing (Member # 768) on :

I think I just may be able to attend the signing at the mall. Pending my wife hasn't other plans for her birthday...

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

What, is it everyone's birthday in August? [Wink]

I think I'm going to plan on the mall signing just cause it's a little more central to where I'm going to be. I think ALL of you shoyld some to that one. *ahem* [Big Grin]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Hee, hee. You know what? All you people with birthdays around the middle of August were probably concieved around the end of the third week or beginning of the fourth week of November.

That's right, the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. [ROFL]

Posted by Brinestone (Member # 5755) on :

I work about a block from that mall, so I plan on going to that signing as well.

Posted by The Rabbit (Member # 671) on :

Grrr! I won't be back in Utah until the 19th. There is some terrible curse on me which keeps me from Hatrack gatherings.

Are you just going to go straight after work?

Posted by Brinestone (Member # 5755) on :

What time is the signing?

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

Seven. So maybe I should pick you up from work, we can get something to eat and hang out with Hatrackers, and then we can go to the signing.

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

I keep trying to figure out why people want to go to a singing.

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

We could have one of those too. I am a choir director after all. [Wink]

Posted by The Rabbit (Member # 671) on :

I live only 2 1/2 blocks from Crossroads mall. If OSC will just move his signing until Friday Aug. 19, when I am back in Salt Lake, you can all come over to my place for dessert.

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

[Frown] I'm sad that I'll miss you again.

Posted by Brinestone (Member # 5755) on :

Sounds good.

Posted by mothertree (Member # 4999) on :

How close do you guys live now? I get Salt Lake City utilities but I don't get to vote for Mayor.

And I've never hosted a general Hatrack event, but my husband would welcome the excuse for me to clean up the house. Not that I won't do it until then.

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

We're in Midvale now (the nice Fort Union part, not the scary wrong-side-of-the-tracks part where lived as a kid).

Posted by Vadon (Member # 4561) on :

I might come, it all depends.

Posted by Brinestone (Member # 5755) on :

Ooh! A Utah Jatraquero that I haven't met yet. Fresh meat!

Posted by MattB (Member # 1116) on :

<- also fresh meat.

So according to my sources deep within the Davis County Library, the August 17th signing is indeed at the Bountiful branch, not in Farmington.

For reference, the Bountiful address is 725 South Main Street, uh, Bountiful. Take the Fifth South Bountiful exit from I-15 north to Main Street, then turn left. Library's half a block down on the left. Yep, I answered the phones there.

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

What time is that one?

Posted by scottneb (Member # 676) on :

I think MattB is using a military tactic called a "feignt" or "misdirection." Basically you do something that makes the enemy believe the brunt of your attack will come from one direction when you come from a completely different direction.

[No No]

8 days. [Cry] [Cry] [Cry] [Cry] [Cry]

Posted by MattB (Member # 1116) on :

Narnia - it's still seven, I think.

Curses. My nefarious plot has been foiled. Now when will I find enough time alone with OSC to convince him that I should direct Ender's Game?

(Sorry, Thor. I hope it's consolation enough that you've become archetype)

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

Drat. I can't come to Utah. [Frown]

I'll miss you guys (and OSC).

[Frown] [Frown] [Frown]

Posted by sarcasticmuppet (Member # 5035) on :

It's okay, Narnia! We can be in Not Utah together! It's, uh, way cooler anyway...not being in Utah...stupid Utah with its DESERT and MOUNTAINS and OSC SIGHTINGS... [Smile]

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

[Wink] (((Ashley))) But I wish I was not in Utah with you. Alas. For another time then. [Big Grin]

How long does he usually sign for? I end work at 7:30.

?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I am so bummed that we don't get to see any of y'all while we're in SLC tomorrow.

Er, tonight.

[Grumble]

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

[Frown] Are y'all still going to the signing?

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

We're planning on going.

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

I was just wondering if y'all can still play this game.

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

I'm still planning on it.

Posted by whiskysunrise (Member # 6819) on :

What time are people planning on getting there?

Posted by Der Grammatikfuehrer (Member # 5015) on :

Ruth and I will probably be there early (like 5:15–5:30) because she works just a block away. I don't know what time others are planning on getting there.

<—Jon Boy, by the way

Posted by mothertree (Member # 4999) on :

I thought I'd check this thread to see whether there is a shinda at my house afterwards. Ya'll are still invited. Though I guess signings could run pretty late. Anyone familiar with how it works?

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

I think all the signings I've been to have been on campus during the day. I don't remember how long they typically lasted.

I'm all for descending on Trisha's house like locusts.

Posted by mothertree (Member # 4999) on :

I've been hitting the cereal sales like gangbusta's. So we can always have a cereal fight.

Actually, I learned this really cool game from a german guy called "Chocolate fight". That was the game, though he would never lack for dates if that were his name. P.S. I still don't each chocolate, so when it was my turn I benevolently shared my spoils with my children.

Hello?

I think I only told two people that I might go out of town but I'm not going out of town. So we're on if anyone is interested.

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

For us, it'll all depend on how late the signing goes. I'd love to come, though.

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

Okay, so what's the plan? People are talking about going to the Wednesday signing at the Bountiful Library because there'll be a better chance to talk to OSC. Is everyone planning on this?

Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :

If anyone has a chance to meet Epictetus, go for it. One of my best friends through High School.

Posted by ? (Member # 2319) on :

I could actually go to either signing. Unless most of you are going to the Bountiful Library, I'm just planning on going to the mall. So where are you going?

Of course I've never meet any of you, so I'm not sure it will make too much of a difference which one I go to. As far as I know jatraqueros are able to blend into the crowd and look like normal people from a distance. [Razz]

?

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

It looks like most of us are going to the Bountiful Library signing. Is that right, everybody?

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

That's the one I'm sending my brother to.

Posted by whiskysunrise (Member # 6819) on :

Gnixing and I are going to the mall. Not sure what time.

Posted by mothertree (Member # 4999) on :

Hello, just ran across this. There may be some extra tickets available if you want to check in at galacticcactus. I think I only have one. Porter and bev have between 2 and 4, assuming John and Ruth are using 2 of theirs.

P.S. There is also the opportunity of standby seating at 6:45.

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

This is the library. You can buy Magic Street at the signing at the library still, right? That only makes sense, but my brain is insisting that library books are for borrowing.

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

I think they said that Barnes and Noble was providing books that you could buy. The library itself is not selling the books.

Posted by gnixing (Member # 768) on :

The Border's signing at Crossroads was nice. OSC spent an hour talking and answering all sorts of questions and then did the books. It was great, he let those of us with small children (I should say both of us cause I believe there was only one other with a small child) jump to the front of the line rather than wait for our position. We got to take a nice photo - only wish we had brought our 2 yr old for the photo.

Enjoy Bountiful the rest of you!
