Because they have screwed me over.
I preordered my Harry Potter book back in January. Now they tell me mine will not ship until the 19th.
So, I am just going to see if I can snag a copy from the local supermarket at 12am.
Wish me luck.

Good luck.

Personally I don't like Amazon because I always wind up spending too much money there.

I thought they had a guaranty on Harry Potter that if it doesn't arrive on the day of release, you don't get billed for it at all. That's what my 11 year old cousin was telling me.

I didn't have enough money in my bank account.
But, they never specified that the book had to be paid for BY the 11th.
They only said it had to be ordered by the 11th.
So, because I didnt' get my first pay check on Saturday like I was supposed to, I got screwed over.

Amazon bills right when they're about to ship, so if you expected it to ship on the 11th...

Normally, yes. Here we're talking about overnighting several hundred thousand books all at once, requiring them to start packing 'em up and getting 'em ready to ship days before the actual ship date. I can't fault them for needing to process the orders early in this case.

I had a similar problem -- preordered the book back in December, moved, accidentally entered inaccurate credit card information, figured out what the problem was on the morning of the 12th -- but I'm willing to put the blame where it belongs, on myself.

As for the predicament you now find yourself in, I recommend calling local bookstores and seeing if you can reserve a copy. I managed it on my second try. (The first store had already sold out its first shipment.)

Oho
I am clever.
I have a backup plan.
If all else fails, I've reserved a copy at Barnes and Nobles.
