I have a granddaughter! Jay (Dave's stepson) and his wife are the proud parents of Isla ("eye-lah"), who was born 5 days ago at 7 lb 7 oz. Baby and mom are both doing fine.

Here is a picture of Dave and our first grandbaby.

Woo-hoo!

My grandfather always used to say, "Children are the investment and grandchildren are the dividend."

Enjoy your dividend!

No way, Rabbit!

This verifies that I am now, like, totally ancient. Y'all must get outta my way when I'm toddling down a sidewalk, and I can eat eight pounds of sausages at one go.

And I don't have to get that hearing aid after all, 'cause the weird conversational gambits just fit right in with my eccentricity. (Which, y'know, I'm entitled to, being a grandmother and all. Woo-hoo, yer young whippersnappers! *surprisingly spry dancing)

Thanks, guys! I am so psyched.

How on earth did I miss this thread earlier today?!? [Eek!] CT & Dave, congratulations! [The Wave]

Don't tell Dave, CT, but my dad said he didn't mind becoming a grandfather. It was sleeping with a grandmother that freaked him out . . . [Wink]

But I think he's gotten over it. My oldest is almost 12. [Big Grin]

Congratulations, CT! She's just darling.

You'll make a fantastic grandmother. Have you decided what she's going to call you (we're currently having the Grandma, Grammie, Granny, Nana negotiations in my family)?

Yay! What a beautiful picture! Congrats to everyone involved. [Big Grin]

Have fun holding the little one! And remember, you can always hand off the little dear when she gets fussy or poopy or... And you can spoil her rotten with chocolate and quarters and trips to the zoo. From what I hear, grandmothering is GREAT!

Everytime I see mack writing "huzzah!" I hear Luke's sister from "Gilmore Girls" saying it... o_O

Then the kid will simply choose something else to call them. My in-laws coached Thomas to say Gammy and Gampy...he calls them Mimi and Papa. Not sure where he got it.

Being a gparent is much better than being the parents! You get to love them.... That's it. You don't have to be mean, you don't have to disapline, you don't have to yell, and the child will think you're a god and mom and dad are meanies!

The added benefit: It screws up your own kids! They will say things like, "You never let us get away with XXXXX." "Why didn't you spoil us like that?" "You're undermining our efforts to (insert anything you deem 'unreasonable' that the parents do to your grandchild!)

I gave warning when my first grandchild was conceived that I will make sure my grandchild loves me MORE than you. I will give them that extra piece of candy, let them play in the mud puddle and rain, etc..

OK.. I'm being extreme.. but it's more fun being the grandma!
