DA dum da dum, dum da dum!
Voltron is coming to the big screen.

It very likely will be truly awful. But I can't wait to see it. [Big Grin]

Cool. I remember getting up early Saturday morning for that! Fun.

I LOOOOOVE VOLTRON!!

I'm so nervous about this and Transformers. I feel like they are raping the 80's.

I will forgive them if it works out.

At least they haven't made a He-Man movie yet. Now that would be truly awful.

They did. And yes, it was awful. But when you're 7 years old, just about every movie is awesome.

I remember watching this on the rare occasions that AFN (Armed Forces Network) carried it. We only got 12-hour blocks of programming, so we would get two doses of Voltron-goodness when it came on.

I'm just imagining the cheesy music key plot combined with a Woo fighting scene.

"How come every time you fight Skeletor hand to hand there are doves around, He-Man?"

I loved Masters of the Universe, it was hilarious.

As far as a He-Man movie goes, it really wasn't horrible. Not a paragon of script writing or of acting, but it really wasn't horrible considering when it was made.

Look for a new He-Man and She-Ra movie (starring Uma Thurmon and Michael Clarke Duncan) in 2008!

PS - That was a joke, but I fully trust Hollywood to make my joke into a horrible, horrible reality.

TheTick: Nooooooo!!!

Boris: Look at my screenname. [Wink]

Ack! I just clicked on the IMDB link, I was just kidding about there being a He-Man movie around the corner.

The actor they picked for the part looks fairly He-Mannish though. Still, so many variables left uncovered. Really I'm concerned about Teela and Man at Arms. Very important peripheral characters.

I hope to all that is holy that Woo skips He-Man and instead moves up The War of the Red Cliff.

I hope that it's the cool land-sea-air Voltron and not the stupid lions Voltron.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

The Lions were the best. Only 5 toys to keep track of.

Comments on several issues:

Voltron 1 (Ships) vs. Voltron 3 (Lions)

Voltron 1 was much cooler than Voltron 3 for the following reasons:

1) Story: V3 took place on a single planet with the bad guy being a generic sorcerer. The story line had no progression.

V1 was about an imperialistic alien race that attacked earth, so the Voltron team batteled their way accross the galaxy to drive back the bad guys. At the end of the story, Voltron attacked the bad guys planet directly, destoying their cities until the bad emperor stopped the war prevent total destruction of their race (kinda ironic coming from a cartoon made in Japan.) Also, with 15 characters instead of 5, there was more relationship stories than V3.

2) Toys: The 15 ships were way cooler than the lions. You could combine the land/sea/air vehicles into super vehicles as well as make the robot.

3) Blazing sword: V3 formed his sword by stretching it out of his hands. V1 smashed his two spinning laser blades (of which V3 only had 1) together and formed the sword.

I could go on, but I think I've made my point.

Second item, the He-Man movie. I was still a kid when I saw it, but as I recall it wasn't too bad for a cheezy, low budget B-film. They even had a few clever scenes. I recall one scene where the heros are on a roof top or something similar, discussing how they couldn't find where Skeletor was. While deep in conversation, Skeletor rises silently behind them in his flying vehicle. Of course instead of blasting them in the back, he taunts them first, but it was a clever scene, nonetheless.

Last item, other cartoons of the genre that might make cool movies.

Star blazers - This could be awesome if done right.

Robotec - This may work better as a miniseries due to the lenght of the story.

Astroboy - This one would work best if based on the original stories. My mother used to watch the show and said that often the episodes ended in tragedy.

Speed Racer - Make this one super campy.

Any other ideas.

G-Force.

Starblazers would be great as a live action series if given the right budget.

G-Force would Be intresting with the cross dressing alien. Maybe Jim carey can Play him.

oh god, a live action Thundercats? I think perhaps we have gone off the deep end.

What about live action GI Joe? Is the voice of Cobra Commander still alive? If not, there's just no point.

As an afterthought, he better be alive anyway to play Starscream on Transformers.

What I really want to see is a live action Visionaries . Awwww man, that'd be sweet. I'd have a coronary from excitement if they did that.
