I'm sure Kayla and our other expert Googlers already know this, but I did not.

If you use the string
code:
 site:www.hatrack.com SEARCHTERM

Google will only search Hatrack. The only trouble is that it's bringing up threads with the pre-turnover address, but a simple snip fixes that.

Innit cool? [Big Grin]

Huh. I'm surprised you didn't know about that already, rivka.

It was not covered in my Googling 101 course. [Razz]

You know what else is cool about Google? You can use it as a calculator by typing in, say, 3452*10413. It will also give you the value of constants (mathematical and physical), if you search for, say, "e" or "electron mass" or "boltzmann constant."

Another cool thing I discovered that I can do with Google is search for my name in Google Scholar and have it come up with a hit [Wink]

Pff. Don't you have the Google toolbar? It has 'Search this site only' as an option. Plainly, technology has moved on since your day; I suggest you go sit in the corner and attend to your knitting, and let us young people do the work.

So someone could write a nice firefox add-in that searches hatrack only and translates the thread links for us.

I hate browser toolbars. Keep your GUI trash to yourself.

But it's so useful! You don't have to go to Google every time you want a search! And it does popup blocking, and you can use it instead of the Ctrl-F search, which is sloooow.

Easiest way to do this would be with a greasemonkey script:

http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/

This page should help:
http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/authoring.html

Use a little url manipulation to pull out the desired values, then stick them in the new URL format in the appropriate places, then load that page.
