The Work and the Glory, a movie set in the early days of the Mormon Church. Pretty good film--not the best I've seen this year, but certainly not the worst.

The most recent thing in my VCR? I'm not sure. Probably "Alchemy: Dire Straits Live", just because I watch it so often.

Right, that's it, I'm giving up beer and buying a subsciption to Bravo. (But I'll have missed the first episodes and so it would make sense?! [Angst] )

Damien.m ... where are you in the UK?

Gigantic (A Tale of Two Johns), a documentary about TMBG is on top of my DVD player, along with a DVD of Ron White doing standup and Life of Brian. In my DVD player is Empire Strikes Back, paused just as our heroes are about to depart from Hoth (I stopped it to go shower a little bit ago, and haven't made it back downstairs yet).

You've Got Mail

It's the only DVD I own, actually, in region 1 coding. I keep my computer set to region 2 so I can watch the 2 French DVDs I couldn't find in the states.

Posted by firebird (Member # 1971) on :

5th Element ... Genius film. A school friend's Dad did the score for it. Which I hope you will all agree was ACE!

Astaril, did you enjoy it?

Posted by Damien.m (Member # 8462) on :

5th Element is amazing everyone i know seems to hate it though. i guess everyone in ireland just has bad taste.

Posted by Astaril (Member # 7440) on :

Really? Neat! I just watched it the other night. It's one of my roommate's favourites so I've seen at least part of it several times already this summer. I'll have to listen more closely next time to the music. I do like the film, yes. Actually, I really wanted hair like Leelu's (or however you spell it) in high school, but unfortunately only natural coloured dye was ever sold at stores within about 70 km of my home.

Robotech: Macross

I just bought the full collection, what a great show.

The Chapelle Show. Season 1 and 2

Everyone I know hear in Houston is quoting it verbatim, so i'd better watch it before the ruin all the good jokes.

Very, very funny stuff. Racy though, you puritans want to staw away because it has lots of bad words, sexual situations, and large gatherings of Black People.

Every time I've opened the DVD player for the last 3 weeks, I've had to pull out a Firefly disk. [Big Grin] Disks 1-4 rotate through it pretty regularly as different people watch episodes throughout the day (my siblings are out of school) and then when I come home, or when my friend comes over specifically to watch the episodes he hasn't seen yet.

Erin Brockovich... speaking of which, I need to finish it. PowerDVD went Kaputt yesterday night.

Oh, and I'm also a fan of The Fifth Element... good movie, that.

(Bump b/c the show in my DVD player is waay awesome, but don't know if it needs its own discussion thread)

First season, part I of the classic TV show "Black Sheep Squadron," starring Robert Conrad and a whole bunch of great supporting cast.

Serenity. What else? I got a shiny new DVD player as a present and I was planning on having Serenity be the first DVD shown on it, but unfortunately March of the Penguins got there first. And then Fantastic Four. And THEN Serenity.

I think 24, Day 4 is in.. but it might be South Park season 3...

Posted by tmservo (Member # 8552) on :

I keep a MediaCenter, which indexes a few thousand DVDs.. so right now, I'm storing.. about 1,100 DVDs. Most of them are series - MOST of the treks (TOS,TNG,TAS,DS9) - and newer movies. I think right now on the "last play" would be "Murderball" (though I watched Serenity the other day)

A pretty incredible documentary.

Tom Yum Goong, which isn't worth watching if you like silly little things like a plot and character development. But then if you don't care about anything other than action and violence and martial arts, then yeah, you'd probably like it a lot.

We thought the first one by the same two main actors and the director, Ong-Bak, was much much much better and very much worth going out of your way to see.
