I just bought a new printer, and the instructions are telling me to temporarily disable the anti-virus software to prevent errors during installation. I don't know how to do this. When I clicked on what I thought would do it, it warned me that
if I close the AVG virus control center,
"you will no longer be able to control the components." So that can't be it. I don't want to lose my anti-virus, of course, so does anyone know what I can do?

Thanks.
Starr

You can probably leave your anti-virus program running, actually. Give it a shot. If your printer doesn't work properly after the install, disable your AV software through the control center itself (rather than closing the control center) and reinstall. But the odds are good that your printer will work.

I don't know how to disable the software through the control center, that's the problem. [Frown] And can I reinstall if I only have the free version? Would I go back to the website and download it again?

Thanks for your help, Tom. I always worry about doing something wrong.

You won't have to reinstall your virus software. You might have to reinstall your printer driver.

Reinstall my printer driver. *sigh* OK.
I'm at such a loss here. I'll give it a try. Thanks again.

Just a quick note to say I've done it! All seems to be working well. Thanks again, Tom.
