Due to my present lack of gainful employment, I am unable to donate to any of the worthy Katrina relief funds. Due to the small size of my home, I'm not able to put a roof over the head of a Katrina Refuge. So when an e-mail arrived from our local freecycle group, it caught my interest.

It said, "We have rooms full of junk we need to get rid of to make room for New Orleans Refuges." My wife contacted the woman and discussed a plan.

To make a long story short, I spent this afternoon cleaning and redecorating an old child's bedroom to comfortably fit a couple and thier baby.

Sure, I got some freecycle goodies out of the deal, but I would have done it anyway. And it made me feel a bit better.

The woman we helped is an expert on traumatized victims, having fostered over a dozen children during her life time. Who ever is lucky enough to get her home as a refuge during this rebuilding will be in great hands.

So for those of you using freecycle, keep an eye out on those e-mails. You never know what strange paths this stuff may lead you down.
