According to my atlas, Iraq is in the continent of Asia.

The great and inconcievable thinker Vizzini listed the two most famous Classic blunders, of which going in against a Scicilian when death is on the line is only less well known.

That great and most well known classic blunder is, of course, "Never get involved in a land war in Asia."

Hence we have undisputable and "Inconcievable" proof that the invasion of Iraq was a blunder. Who can argue against that?

The Man in Black might have a few arguments against Vizzini's authority on the issue of blunders. . .

Well, he was wrong about that one...

Not really. He went up against a Sicillian when death was on the line, and not 15 minutes later he's in the pits of insanity.

Pit of Despair.

Before confronting Vizzini he was climbing the Cliffs of Insanity.

While he says it's a classic blunder... this is coming from a man who thought Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates were morons....

Never get in a land war in asia? How did he determine that one? Plenty of people were in land wars and did ok. Primarily the Chinese.

well, a man who can out think Vizzini can plan my castle onslaught anytime [Smile]

Vizzini was a liberal hack! I'm sick of these biased Sicillians and their wacko views.

anybody want a peanut?

Blayne--the Chinese had centuries to get into trouble during their land wars. Consider--Japan in China WWII, Russia in Manchuria before WWI, UN and China in Korea, the French in Vietnam, The US in Vietnam, USSR in Afghanistan, all of these were bloody, draining, terrible wars.

Ah but you see, in a war there is usualy someone who on the outside seems to be the winner around 50% of the time, China eventually became a unified Empire (somewhat anyways) under various dynasties, though I agree most of the modern wars in Asia seemed to have been massive drains on resources.

Don't forget Britain on the subcontinent.

And if you want to go way back, the Mongolians had a pretty good time whomping on everyone they came into contact with. Twice they ravaged the entire middle east, flattening most major cites to rubble.

True, and the middle east got back by conquering everthing from Turkey to India and Indonesia.

It's just one big cycle of conquering and counter-conquering.

Yep, true.

The statement "what goes around comes around" is proved better in the Middle East/Asia than anywhere else I think.

I think the Middle ast/asia has less of that chiverly and idealistic bull, realism has been inthe forefront of asian politics for a long time, the enmy has land I want I'll make a bunch of intricet alliances to make sure I ake it and then I take it.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Really? I think that many asian cultures value honor a lot more than western cultures. Which is just another form of chivalry. Idealism can mean a lot of things to a lot of people too. You mean western style idealism, which champions a different ideal than many east asian cultures find appealing, and have throughout history.

Lets just say I simplefied my observations about the political history of asia and Japan and would be worth a 2000 page essay to explain it all. [Frown]

It wasn't a mistake. Bush's search for WMD's is just a coverup for the ROUS's.

Actually, he was sort of correct, in a way

Are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemies? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you ... But you must have known I was not a great fool; you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
.
.
.
Because Iocaine comes from Australia. As everyone knows, Australia is entirely peopled with criminals. And criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me. So, I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you.
.
.
.
And you must have suspected I would have known the powder's origin, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
.
.
.
You've beaten my giant, which means you're exceptionally strong... so you could have put the poison in your own goblet trusting on your strength to save you, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But, you've also bested my Spaniard, which means you must have studied ... and in studying you must have learned that man is mortal so you would have put the poison as far from yourself as possible, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me!

In a confusing way, he was sorta right.

My friend Troll can do Vizzini's voice near perfectly, and at one point had that entire scene memorized (if not the entire movie). And, as he's getting older, he looks more and more the part!

No no no... she meant Johnny Cash and the prescient but little known alternative lyrics to "Boy Named
Sue", "Three Boys Named Fezzig, Inigo, and Vizzini".
