Anime Ballet

quote:
The plot involves a male scientist (Ms. Kashiwagi, got up at the outset to look like Prince in a white robe) who creates a dominatrix robot who can kill people with her breasts (the full-figured Suzi Takahashi, who acts more than she dances).

I think I will pass.

A wise choice, my friend.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Speaking of which, should I be trying to get Broadway tickets now, or wait until I'm there?

. . . er, not that I have any nights free. Ok, scratch that . . .

Matinee?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

What days do they have those? Any besides Sunday?

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

Wednesdays.

So it's just a remake of The Nutcracker?

And Saturdays apparently, which doesn't help much.

When is my flight out Wednesday again? Somehow I don't think a 2 pm matinee is going to work.

Oh well. [Dont Know]

You people are so mean to me. All I wanted to do was point out that there's this great cultural opportunity featuring robots and pointy breasted protagonists awaiting you in Long Island. I just can't believe you aren't grateful to me for bringing this enriching past time to your attention.

That's OK, bunbun. Tastes differ.

Boy, do they differ!

Dags, didn't you ever learn from Monty Python and the Holy Grail? [Razz]

Dag & bunbun... [ROFL]

Now, if this play were on ice...that'd really be something.

Any story can be told better on ice.

Just ask Disney.

Or Jack Daniels.

Bottle, nothing.

We're talking kegs, baby!

Who's having a kegger? And why wasn't I invited?

Rivka:

tickets tkts info

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Thanks, Glenn. The thing is, unless the group I'm supposed to be meeting up with Monday night bails (which is looking more and more likely [Razz] ), there are no good times for me to go.

Am I correct that there are no good online places to get tickets in advance, and TKTS is still the cheapest game in town? (Wow, some things really don't change in 14 years!)

So far, nothing I've looked at even has shows on Mondays. Except Sweeney Todd, and that doesn't open until after I'm back home.

Rivka, you can check BroadwayBox and TheaterMania for show discounts - I've gotten several good deals through the latter. You have to sign up for access, but it's free. Unfortunately, I don't think it has a massive general calendar, so you'd have to check show by show for the Monday thing. Same goes for Broadway Box, AFAIK. Good luck finding something! [Smile] (I'd volunteer to be your Theatre Buddy, but I'll be in rehearsal that night.)

Thanks, Nell. [Smile]

Yeah, it looks like Monday is Broadway's day off.

Posted by Nell Gwyn (Member # 8291) on :

Broadway shows are almost always dark on Mondays, but some Off-Broadway and a good amount of Off-Off-Broadway and fringe stuff should still be playing. There might be some special events too, ie cabarets and benefit concerts that Broadway stars can participate in since it's their usual night off from their regular show. So it's always worth checking into.

Rivka, I don't know what kind of theatre you're looking for, but Rent, Altar Boyz, and Slava's Snow Show are all playing on Mondays. I've seen the latter two, and they're both good fun and excellent productions. (I've seen Rent too, but it was in London. No doubt the NYC cast is great too.) And if you happen to like Jekyll & Hyde and/or Scarlet Pimpernel, there's a cabaret that night of Frank Wildhorn's music - his website has details on that. (Darnit, why does that have to be on Monday?! [Razz] ) I didn't go through everything; those were just the first ones that popped out at me. Theatermania has a massive list of pretty much everything that'll be playing in NYC - too bad there's no way to search by specific date.

Glenn, yeah, I know that. But I also knew what Nell said about the Off- and Off-Off- stuff. I'm most disappointed about Sweeney, which I had noticed a while ago was going to be playing Mondays . . . but hadn't realized wasn't opening until October.

Rent is a possibility. And it looks like there are still tickets (at least at full price, although I have little interest in paying that). Altar Boyz and SSS don't look to be my thing (although the latter does have a hat rack in a pivotal role).

As for what I like, I'm a big musical fan. The only thing I've actually seen on Broadway is Cats (and THAT was a loooong time ago!)

Phantom is playing Mondays . . . and there are still tickets for that as well. I guess I know where I will be next Monday at about 3. [Wink]

If you want a sure thing on Phantom, you can get discount tix for it online. I've only used TKTS once, so I don't remember if Phantom's usually there or not. And the current "Phantom," Hugh Panaro, is absolutely incredible...he seriously gives a not-to-be-missed, incoherent-rave-worthy performance! [Big Grin] Plus he'll only be in it till October 1st, so yeah, definitely see that. *adds Phantom to list of shows for this month*

I think my schedule is too in flux for me to commit in advance. Thanks for the recommendation, though. [Smile]
