Well, it has happened.
My two online worlds have melded at last.
Myr and I are officially Herdraqueros.

What a beautiful music festival it was, and what a lovely woman Myr is. Also, now quite a Zydeco dancer!

The music was predominantly Cajun and Zydeco, which was bittersweet due to the disaster. However, the festivalgoers raised over 42,000 dollars for New Orleans, and a local beer distributor is matching up to 25,000. Pretty cool way to give thanks for the music.

I can now proudly say I know the difference between Cajun and Zydeco.

Thanks so much for coming, Myr!!!

I had So. Much. Fun.

The Herd is a great bunch of people! I love them! I believe other people need to crossgeekify. I don't go to any forums that don't have something to do with the 'rack, but people who do should bring the two communities together. We've proved that it's a good idea [Big Grin] Just like Hatrackers, but with a different flavor!

Yes, we could even have a Multigeektual convention!

KQ, I thought of you many times. It was Zydeco Heaven.

Aidan, my son, is sort of a guitar prodigy. Well, I guess it is not sort of. Anyway, he was in the Cajun Kid's Academy. They got a bunch of kids together of all levels of fiddle, guitar, and accordion, and played two songs on Sunday. It was led by the members of a band called Magnolia. And they asked Aidan to play a song with them when they played their set. And he did! And he was amazing!

I am going to try to get the pic of Myr dancing.

Definitely not sort of... definitely a prodigy [Big Grin]

Multigeektual convention, I like the sound of that!

Myr, did you get to see the Wilders?? I forget, I don;t think they were playing Saturday. They are my new faves, after Keb Mo. And, of course, Donna.

Heh, she's tall.

Are you so sure the guy isn't short?

She is lovely, and tends to drink in all the light around her.

I didn't get to see the Wilders! Buuuut... If they were playing on Sun. I very well may have heard them, I was listening to the radio on Sun. and stopped on a station that I was really liking what they were playing. When the announcer came on, they said they were broadcasting live from the Rhythm and Roots festival! I didn't catch who it was, though.

...I LOVE Aidan's hat. I think I may need to, like, get his autograph soon because I think he's going places. And fast. Wow. [Smile]

Feyd, you're not allowed to talk about tall [Razz]

And I was severely impressed with Keb Mo.

no kidding.

I've got to watch/hear that kid play guitar.

Very cool!

I like the hat!

I don't want to even think about what would happen if one I frequent found out about Hatrack. Not to mention the horrible 8 headed babies that eat and would now breathe fire.

Even some of the subforums at this forum I'm thinking about don't get along very well.

Anyways, It sounds like you guys had some serious fun. Someone doesn't to live vicariously through anyone. [Wink] [Wink]

The musicians who have seen him keep saying, "You saw it here first," and stuff like that. He has even given an autograph. Ha ha.

Myr, we are working on getting the Keb Mo recording. The Wilders, if you heard them, sound like vintage country from the Patsy Kline era. Unbelievable.

And next time, I am going to find you some younger guys to dance with. Ha ha.

Also, Bob, I think you and Dana would LOVE this festival.

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

It quite possibly was the Wilders I heard, then!

You missed my first dance partner, he was in his upper twenties and just as clumsy as me [Big Grin]

Elizabeth, your son is so awesome. And adorable. Is he looking for a girlfriend? My daughter likes older men and musicians. [Big Grin]

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

KQ, he already has older women hot on his trail! ha ha, and is as clueless about it as can be. So, by the time Emma is ready to date, he should, if he is at all like his father, begin to realize that women exist as different creatures from men.

And you would LOVE this festival!

Myr, no matter how clumsy you think you were(and you were quite graceful, and "got it"), you can always compare yourself to Steve and me, who so proudly displayed our Zydeco style, only to learn that it was the two-step.

Oh how cute!!

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Well, Myr, it displays my controversial outfit, for sure. Lou just keeps on harping about it. Really, though, if you kind of squint, the colors are not TOO clashing.

So, wanna come to Vermont in November? I am also hoping for a Narrows show. As a matter of fact, there is a great band, the Avett Brothers, coming to the Narrows very soon. (Oct. 15)(Fall River)

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

Ohh, November is looking pretty booked so far, when would it be? Where is the Narrows?

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

The Narrows is in Fall Rivvah.

The Avetts play October 15th.

Thre is also the Lonesome Brothers 20th Aniversary show at the Iron Horse. Aidan and I just love them. It would be so fun if you came and had a sleepover.

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

Ohhh yes I remember you told me about the Narrows. I'll have to be reminded closer to the dates, because now my life has to be scheduled around studio (all the projects this year are group projects, otherwise I'd do the work on my own time!)

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

But at least you can stay out as late as you want...

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

Haha not quite, cause if I need to borrow the car for anything I need to be home by one thirty with it (and somehow get a ride back to campus) or have a good excuse why the car and I are out all night!

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

Does kidnapping count?

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

We have had kidnapping victims around here before, Mack...

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

Convenient kidnappings are always welcome. Though I don't think they count as a valid excuse!

What a surprise!
Myr said she might come to the fest on Sunday, but after we weathered hurricane conditions Friday and Saturday, I thought for sure she would bail.

Not so!

There she was in the dance tent, Cajun two-steppin' away!

Musical highlights this year:

The Horse Flies in the storm.

John Jorgenson(Gypsy jazz-incredible)

The Women in Music Workshop: Marcia Ball, Ann Savoy, Judy Hyman

The Cajun Kids' Academy

Dr. John(with cane, of course-he is tres cool)

The Spanish Harlem Orchestra. Wow. They won the Grammy for salsa last year.

Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys.

The Red Stick Ramblers.

I am now deeply in love with Cajun music. It is soothing and tells stories(if you know French), and is just lovely and rich music.

My friend fell in love with the Cajun and Zydeco music, which is awesome. I had So. Much. Fun. Everyone is always so happy and dancey and the music is so great! You get to meet so many interesting people in the dance tent, and everyone is so patient in teaching you how to do the steps. I don't know what I'll do if I move far away... I think I'm addicted to Rhythm and Roots.

Had such a nice time, and it's so nice to see you and the family again!

Oh, and weird thing about this year, I saw my twelfth grade German teacher and a professor of mine at the festival. Random and cool, I love them both [Smile]

Ha!
it is a fear of mine to run into one my students at a music fest!

I am glad you had fun.

Wouldn't it be fun to have a Cajun band as a wedding band? I think my husband and I should do a 20th Anniversary remarriage just to have a Cajun band.

Also, if you want to go to the Donna show on Sunday, tickets are still available, they are playing for four hours, and it is going to be hot, hot, hot.

That is the greatest idea ever!!! Why didn't I think of that?!

I think (in the far future) I will have to steal that idea.

I think Sunday my family has something planned, but I never really know. I'll have to find out about that.

Elizabeth, since i think you will read this thread, I"ve got a couple questions for you. Both have to do with knitting.

Oh, sheesh, Breyer, I know what they are!!!
I swear, I am on it!!
