I said that when we made the announcement, it would be obvious so you wouldn't have to guess. Well, here it is: Jon Boy and I are expecting a baby on April 2, 2006.

Whoa, that is so weird. I've spent an inordinate amount of time in the yard the last month with nothing to think about all day and I recently thought about posting a thread asking when the heck this was going to happen. (I didn't actually do, did I?)

Congratulations and thanks for reading my mind.

So, besides "A healty baby" what do you want? Boy or girl?

Congratulations guys--you'll be great parents.

The thread title was so obvious I thought it must have been something else and you were just pulling our (collective) leg.

Thanks, guys. I've found it's so hard not telling people as soon as you know! Especially when they ask you directly if you're expecting or trying or whatever. We had more people do that than I ever thought possible. Maybe there was something in our eyes or something.

[Smile] [Smile] [Smile]

Posted by beverly (Member # 6246) on :

Yeah. I remember a *lot* of people were giving you guys a hard time, joking and stuff, and I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be funny if they were?"

Posted by Brinestone (Member # 5755) on :

The rudest was a girl I barely know at church who asked us if we were trying to get pregnant. I was thinking, "No, we're not trying. We succeeded." I think I just shrugged and changed the subject quickly.

The "When are you planning to have kids?" question was easier to dodge because we can just say, "Probably soon" or "Sometime in the next year, probably."

But the "Are you pregnant?" question--well, I usually couldn't dodge that one very well.

Posted by Kayla (Member # 2403) on :

Then I believe it's Dana's turn. Personally, I'm waiting for that announcement next. (Jamie, I am just assuming you aren't having kids anytime soon. But let me know if you do! T'will be very excited if you do.)

But when are Dana and Bob gonna have a kid?

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

Is the first real, true Hatrack baby?

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

You mean the first baby of a couple that met on Hatrack? I don't know. Possibly, but part of me thinks there's no way we could be the first.

Posted by Jonathan Howard (Member # 6934) on :

I hope your empathy for the child doesn't die away quickly! [Razz]

Just kidding. This is WONDERFUL news, so wonderful that I want to hug you both. But remember that linguists' sons'n'daughters might end up like me. Yeah, that's the bad news.

Congrats!!!! [Smile] [Smile] [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

There are lots of Hatrack babies, but none that have been born to people who met on Hatrack.

Clearly the kid's middle name must be Jatraquero/a.

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

It is not my turn. [Eek!]

Yeah, like she really needs to be told to do that.

Posted by Brinestone (Member # 5755) on :

I haven't actually looked at baby clothes once! I've brushed my fingers on them as I pass quickly, but I haven't stopped.

*pouts*

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

Pish posh. Maybe you haven't stopped for as long as you'd like, but you've certainly stopped and oohed and aahed over tiny clothing and shoes.

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

Get used to it, buddy.

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

*sigh*

I know. I was just enjoying my freedom from looking at tiny clothes as long as possible. But those days will soon end.

Nerd!

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Just wait 'til you start enjoying looking at tiny clothes.

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

Oh . . . how cute . . . little editor's caps!

Posted by Scott R (Member # 567) on :

I admit, after 4 kids, I finally do not mind looking at baby clothes.

And anyone who asks us when the next baby is due gets the very honest answer of, "I think we're done."

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

I prefer the honest answer "none of your buisness".

What the heck is an editor's cap? And where can I get one?

My favorite answer to intrusive questions like that is "You will be the first to know."

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

I love the idea of bluntly telling someone it's none of their business, but I think in practice I'm a little too spineless. Usually the best I can do is to dodge the question.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Do you know what it is yet? I have some baby girl clothes listed at the Hatrack Free Store...

Posted by Brinestone (Member # 5755) on :

Not for another six weeks or so.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

Congratulations both of you! [Smile]

So have you bought anything for the baby yet?

Posted by imogen (Member # 5485) on :

Ooooh, little tiny clothes!

We went shopping for a friend's newborn a couple of months back and I got uh... distracted.

Tony had to drag me away, with me all the while protesting "I am *not* clucky!".

(My favourites are the itsy witsy hooded sweaters. [Smile] )

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Oh, I love baby shoes. The clothes are adorable, too, but the shoes just have me in tears every time I see them.

Posted by Brinestone (Member # 5755) on :

I just got my little niece an itsy witsy hooded sweater yesterday. And yeah, it's so cute I can hardly stand it. And then I think about that itsy witsy hood on her cute little head and I feel like I'm going to die.

I'm normally not that blunt. I usually say something like "I don't want to answer that question. So I won't."
