Can you please please please help me find out if it's possible to get from Luxembourg to Paris by train?
Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :
It is. Go to the sncf page, put "Luxembourg" for "Depart" (it will ask you again to choose from two possible places, choose "Luxembourg Ville"), "Paris" for "Arrivee", then set the date / hour / rest of infos and click on "Rechercher maintenant" at the bottom of the page to find the trains.
Edit: And congrats!

You're welcome. If you have any problems with the site, ask away.

What Kama's trying to say is that she's almost certainly getting the translation job she applied for.
Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :
Yeah, but for some reason she's slow to post it on Hatrack...

I was gonna wait until AFTER the interview
Anyway, they asked me when I'm not able to do it. I said Friday 23.09.05. So... I get the e-mail inviting me to medical tests and interview... on Friday, 23.09.2005!
*bangs head on wall*
Anyway, I figure I'm gonna comply. Go to Lux on Thursday, have medical tests Friday morning, have the interview at 2.30 and then catch a train to Paris, arriving sometime in the evening. What think you?
Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :
Ok, ok.
Edit: Grrr...
Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :
Waaaaaait a sec! You mean you'll be in Paris only from Friday evening? Drat. That means another change of plans for me, I think...
Posted by Kama (Member # 3022) on :
I would, yeah. not very happy with this, but don't want to complicate the matters further.

Sure, do what you have to do and I hope you have no problems in getting the job. I just posted in the EuropeCon thread to tell people about this and also asked when's everybody coming. The thing is I am *surely* going to my aunt in Germany before coming to Paris, and I'd like to spend more time with her if we don't meet on Thursday anyway.

Kama, that's wonderful about the translation job. We'll get to see you Saturday and Sunday, then.
And clearly the people you will be working for have wicked senses of humor, so life will be exciting.

*curious*
Medical tests?
Posted by Kama (Member # 3022) on :
it's a requirement. You need to have a medical examination in order to get the job (and the health insurance). I think it's common practice in Europe.
Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :
Wow.
I'm pretty sure that's illegal here.

humph.

Wait?
Corwin is a Paris-ite?
I didn't know that.
Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :
Nope. A "lyonnais", for the moment.

It isn't illegal to require a physical here in the US, a lot of jobs require them.

When I was working for the Red Cross they required a physical. The job description said there would be lifting and they needed to make sure I was healthy enough to do everything required of me. This went along with a pre-employment drug as well.
