Raia, did I ever tell you I was watching the news on the 4th of July, and they said your name at the ceremony for new citizens, well they said it a little wrong, but still close enough I'm sure they meant you. Very funny!

Awesome! I just learned about aliens and cititenship and stuff in my Honors American Government class. It made me think of you Raia.

Welcome to America, Raia [Big Grin] So now you're a dual citizen of Israel and America? That's what I am, too.

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Thanks, guys!

No, Sarah, you did NOT tell me that! That's awesome!

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Jaime, yeah. I'm dual now. [Smile]

So, I guess that means you had those little green antennae removed?

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Yeah... it takes getting used to. I miss them. [Frown]

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

I bet. I imagine they could be braided into hairstyles for extra fun.

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Haha. Absolutely.

Congrats, Raia. [Party] s

(So, for non-Jews, is Congratulations better than Mazel Tov, or is it like Happy Hanukkah? I mean, what do you prefer seeing non-Jews writing?)

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Haha, I really don't care. [Smile]

It's the thought that counts, no?

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Aw, she was a lot more exotic as an alien. Now she's just a boring American.

J/K

Congrats Shani!

I'm still half alien!

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Eh, I guess you're still half exciting.

Resist the urge to be normal. Fitting in is overrated. [Smile]

Yank!!! [Big Grin]

I am a citizen of almost two whole continents, and some of a third.

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

Um, JH, I don't even know what that means.

Raia, congrats, I guess. I take it, then, that you WANT to be a US citizen?

[ROFL]

Posted by Jonathan Howard (Member # 6934) on :

It means I'm an EU and AU citizen. Not to mention Israel.

!Felicidades! A mi tambien me toco eso de la naturalizacion. Mi mami me paso su ciudadania, asi que mi proceso fue muy diferente, pero de todos modos las dos fuimos ciudadanas extranjeras en Estados Unidos. Me alegro por ti.

Oh !! What a shame !!! You are an american citizen... I can't speak to you. Why don't you become a french ???? You could gain elegance and style and creativity. You could really eat better. And the most important : You could sing in our opera...

[Razz]
[Big Grin]
[Wink]

Ah. Thank you for clarying, JH.

I'm a citizen of just the measliest second largest country in the world. Don't count for much. [Cry]

You could become Italian by the same token, except that the rest of the world won't really hate your nationality, you gain elegance but not pretence, you have more variable style to gain, and you eat from the top cuisine on Earth (maybe with the exception of my grandmother's secrets of eastern European recipies) and you have just as many operas to sing in.

I used to work with someone who was married to a Canadian. She had to miss work one day to accompany her husband to the Immigration and Naturalization Service to sort out some paperwork. A co-workers said "I didn't realize that your husband was an alien". Without missing a beat, I chimed in, "That's nothing. My husband is a mutant". It's been years, but that comment still gets brought up.

(My husband has muscular dystrophy, which he inherited from no one in his family -- it was a spontaneous mutation)

Hey Raia! Congrats. Of course, we all know that no citizenship can take away your Martian identity.

Posted by Choobak (Member # 7083) on :

Because you has become american...

...

Ok, it's an ugly joke... You'll stay my friend over the ocean. And i'll continue to speak with you. (Is it "to speak with" or "to speak to" ?)

[Kiss] for you.

Posted by Jonathan Howard (Member # 6934) on :

Wow. How oblivious you are to it. That's one of the reasons...

Why not?

He's being silly, just reminding the stupid relations between the USA and France... But our presence here is the perfect proof of compatibilities between Frenchies and Americans!

Posted by Choobak (Member # 7083) on :

Thanks, Anna, to translate what i would mean...

Posted by Anna (Member # 2582) on :

Actually I just saw your post above mine, I was sure you hadn't answered which is why I did. Sorry [Wink]

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

[Smile] Ok!

Yay! I'm glad I can still speak to you, because I would be sad otherwise. [Kiss]

Either way would be correct.
Truth be told, they both have different connotations. The first implying conversation.

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

And the second implies that you have something specific to say to that person, perhaps requiring a response, perhaps not.

Thanks, guys. [Smile]

Some of my friends here threw me a surprise party, with a big cookie cake that said "Shani's not an alien anymore!" and a "happy citizenship to you!" song when I walked in. I love my friends!

I still can't believe you sold your spaceship.

You're going to miss that one day.

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

[Frown]

Well, I'm still partly alien... I might be able to find one on the black market, or something...
