He get Jesus or something and go on a mission?

::knocks on wood::

Shh!

Enjoy the peace and quiet.

I thought at first it might have to do with being chastised by OSC (I didn't care much for that experience myself, though unlike KoM, I didn't deserve it. I left for a couple of months myself when that happened.) but I see from some quick searching that his last post was almost a week before that happened.

Wasn't he planning to embark on a cross country trip? I hope he didn't drive into the Grand Canyon, a la Thelma and Louise.

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

Oh yeah!

(He wants to more thoroughly know what he's sneering at?) [Wink]

Posted by Storm Saxon (Member # 3101) on :

Awww, y'all are rough. I actually liked the little nipper.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

He certainly stirs the pot, I'll give him that. KoM wins the Hatrack Wooden Spoon Award.

What thread was this in?

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

This one. [Smile]

Posted by sarcasticmuppet (Member # 5035) on :

On the other side... here

edit: quidi beat me to it, but I linked directly to the post [Smile]

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

Oh. The other side.

<shudder>

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

And I even posted in that thread.

Ah, well, it was only a matter of time. Posting one of Mr. Card's pet peeves in a thread about his class is just inviting teh smackdown.

Wow.

King of Men is on his way to California. [Smile]

As an aside, am I the only person on the forum who actually kinda likes him? I mean, when he's on, he's really very funny. And it's obvious that he's a total softie at heart, just ask about his girlfriend. [Big Grin]

What happened to the King? I guess the regime was overthrone.

Posted by El JT de Spang (Member # 7742) on :

I like him. He's abrasive, arrogant, and obnoxious. And he knows just what buttons to push to drive people crazy.

What's not to like?

Posted by Foust (Member # 3043) on :

KoM is abrasive, sure, but the reaction of many here to him is way over the top. I've said it before and I'll say it again - Hatrackers are the most sensitive people I have ever met on the 'net.

Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :

I like him too! Let's form a fan club! All hail KoM! [Hail]

[Razz]

Posted by Crotalus (Member # 7339) on :

Yeah I disagree with just about everything he says, but I do like his style.

Posted by Bob the Lawyer (Member # 3278) on :

He can definately be a funny man. You can get away with murder in my books if you're funny enough.

Posted by Teshi (Member # 5024) on :

I don't mind him [Smile] . I don't really know him that well enough to judge him based on a couple of posts.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

See, I agree with just about everything he says, but dislike his style.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

I think his style is counterproductive, but that doesn't make me dislike him. It makes me not want to debate stuff with him, but as it turns out we agree on a fair number of issues.

The great thing about being sensitive is that it's both a flaw and an asset.

Posted by camus (Member # 8052) on :

Oddly enough, I actually miss the guy too.

I both like and hate his style. I've learned to look past his deliberate offensiveness and focus instead on the points he is trying to make, which are almost always very clear and articulate. I too feel that he could be a lot more productive if he changed his style. But at the same time, I don't really want him to change his style. I find myself laughing at his posts more often now, even when he's insulting me.

What can I say, his atypical charm is growing on me. In fact, I was even concerned about his recent problems with getting money from his home bank and going to California. Anyone have any updates?

But when was Icarus chastised by OSC?

I kinda feel left out.

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

I was chastised by OSC once. *reminisces* It didn't bother me too much because he was wrong and I was right. [Razz]

I think KoM has potential, but the current execution is pathetic.

Hatrack, however, is darling. Everyone short of pedophiles and murderers can find defenders.

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

*laughs* Yeah, I was chastised by OSC once, too, and yep, he was right and I was shortsighted, so it was okay.

And yep, I strongly dislike KoM's delivery.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

I like KoM and don't mind his style. It's kinda one of those things where you (well, I) go, "Oh, that's just KoM, don't take it personally, he's always this way." In that light, even at his most ascerbic, he is often very funny.

My personal favorite was the post where he mocked up a parent's note to God for their child to get out of making moral choices that day. Sometimes I think he's got a better idea of who God is than most Christians.

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

I find him obnoxious. He may have a good point or two buried under there, but by and large, eh. I think he's really extraordinarily rude--which, to me, kind of trumps any other good aspects that he might otherwise possess.

Posted by sarcasticmuppet (Member # 5035) on :

OSC defended KoM once too, something about KoM saying something bratty about America, and OSC agreed with him in a kind of funny way. It was on the other side, but I don't remember where, exactly.

The guy bugs me to no end, but I'm kinda with jeniwren. I've pretty much accepted that that is just the way he is.

It only really bothers me when people suggest that he tone it down a bit and he goes on about how he doesn't care what a group of people on the internet think of his style. If you don't care, leave! Go to some other internet forum where they approve of needless flamewarring! Jeez.

FWIW, it was not my intention to put him down in this thread.

Now, since it has been brought up, I appreciate it when he makes an effort to not call theists idiots. I think it's unfortunate that it takes him so much effort.

Posted by punwit (Member # 6388) on :

I like KoM and I usually agree with his viewpoint. He can be quite entertaining but he misses the bar in most discussions that require tact. I'd equate expecting tact from Kom on a sensitive subject to attempting to construct a ship in a bottle with a framing hammer.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

One other thing I appreciate about KoM is that although his posting style is often needlessly provocative, he actually participates in the thread he's posting in, as opposed to making useless comments that are essentially masturbatory and contribute nothing to the thread topic.

Posted by punwit (Member # 6388) on :

Am I being overly sensitive in wondering if that comment was directed at me?

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

You're being overly sensitive. I was thinking of jebus, who has to my mind become the Peeves of Hatrack.

I suppose so. I must have some feelings of inadequacy to begin with. My apologies for the persecution complex

I liked your hammer allusion.

KoM: Could be worse

Talk about damning with faint praise. [Razz]

When KoM gets settled into California and back on Hatrack, I hope he finds this thread and rips into all of us for being so sentimental.

Here is more ammuntion for KoM if he wishes to chastise us for our emotional nature. Thanks jeniwren

I see that you, like many others, have been suckered in by his prickly persona. I think he's secretly a fuzzy teddy bear at heart. [Big Grin]

Posted by Storm Saxon (Member # 3101) on :

As I was the first to say [Cry] , I like him. [Smile] KoM was always the first to laugh at himself and one of the first to go along with a joke. I always looked at him as a kind of atheist Andy Kaufman, someone who parodied himself, his persona as a religion hater so well, that the real him was often overlooked.

Bears have claws, Twink. And big nasty sharp teeth. Also a penchant for viscious mauling.

I like KoM because he's the athiest atheist ever!

Sorry, Storm. I didn't notice you said it first until after I posted. [Group Hug]

E -- Teddy bears have nothing of the kind! *eyes teddy bear on dresser warily*

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

I don't think hatrack is the most sentimental place on the internet, I'm on a horse message board that gets upset when someone tells them that they did something at all wrong in a nice constructive way, there are about 20 people like that there out of 30, hatracks much better than that, we can embrace the funny at least.

I'm having this vision of Enigmatic, Mr. McGoo like, cuddling up with a teddy opossum every night.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Substitute monkey, Stormy, and you'd be a lot closer.

Posted by Storm Saxon (Member # 3101) on :

Oh, does Enigmatic have a helper monkey?

Posted by Enigmatic (Member # 7785) on :

Twinky: A teddy bear would just as soon gut you as look at you. The only reason they don't is they like to be held. You keep cuddling that teddy bear, buddy, because as soon as you outgrow it and put it in a box in the closet SSNIKT! out come the razor sharp claws and the midnight disembowelings.

Storm: Opossums are kinda cute actually, but it's been fairly well established that I like monkeys.

Oh, I'm gonna be a monkey
A monkey, monkey, monkey
A monkey, monkey, monkey

Oh, I'm gonna be a monkey
A monkey, monkey, monkey
Would you like to be one, too?

Posted by Teshi (Member # 5024) on :

See, the thing you don't know about monkeys, Enigmatic, is that those long arms are perfect, just perfect, for strangulation.

Posted by Enigmatic (Member # 7785) on :

Don't I, Teshi? Er, no! I mean of course I don't. I wouldn't know anything about any strangulations by monkey that had happened recently. Gotta go!
