This is a thread about Bob, our bobcat.

He has been hanging around our property for abut six years now.

He looks like a big cat, really. We have yet to get the definitive picture of him. We have some beauties, though. I will post them one by one, because I am not too good at the whole posting business.

Today, our cat came in through the cat window all a-bristle. "Ooh, Bob is out there!"

He was. Just outseide the window, he sat and stared at me, then walked up the back porch steps. He and the cats have a very catlike relationship. They yell at each other, yet want to be around each other nonetheless.

There is not a great pic of the bobbed tail, because the camera card was full when I got THE perfect shot.

This always seems to happen. Sort of like Bigfoot.

He isn't all that big. He is the size of a large house cat. In the winter, he gets really bulky.

The height between treads on the steps looks to be ~7inches/~18centimetres.
And the minimum distance between the handrail and the treads appears to be ~32in/~80cm in height.

If you look at his back legs(even though he has conveniently hidden his tail-the lout), you can see they are beefier and a little taller than usual cats.'

He might be a mix, but a neighbor, who is a hunter, said no, he is a bobcat. They do not have the prominent features that lynx or other types of wild cats do.

When he runs across the lawn, it is very clear he is no housecat. He runs like a rabbit.

Actually, it probably is a little watered down genetically, but it definately looks like a bobcat to me. It's got the characteristic ear tufts, larger furry jowls, a big ol'... um, hind end, and HUGE paws. It's got a housecat somewhere in it's background, but I wouldnt walk up to it and tell it that.

I wish, wish, wish I could get a viseo of it when it runs.
It's head is definitely like a regular house cat's, but when it looks at you, it just looks, well, wild. I have seen feral cats, and I think cat behavior is basically the same, whether wild or tame. A feral house cat will act like a wild cat, a tame bobcat is supposed to be the sweetest pet ever.
Like I said, he has a way of avoiding a picture that is definitive.
One day I will get him!

You know, we have never really explored the "her" option much.

The color, too. I don;t think it comes through as well in photos, but it is a gray I have never seen in a house cat before. And in winter, the fur is much different.

I don't doubt he has bobcat in him...but I'm almost completely certain that's not a pure bobcat. The profile of the head is far too domestic, and the shape of the body - wildcats in general do not, even in captivity, gain the "potbelly" to which domestic cats are prone. He (or she?) is probably a housecat/bobcat cross, or at least definitely has a bobcat in his lineage.

Avadaru, if you heard the sounds he makes...it is so freaky. It is this growl, and then sometimes a scream, and we are always sure that someone has been murdered.

He and the cats, though, have a very typical catlike relationship. He kind of chases them, but never hurts them, and our younger cat definitely eggs him on.

We really do think od him as our third pet.

Plus, we used to have a rabbit problem in the garden...

We have a cat named Bob at my school. He lives on the street where my residence house is, and when it's cold or yucky out he stands outside one of the houses and tries to sneak in whenever someone opens the door. We have to keep putting him back outside because there's always someone who's allergic to him.
