What kind of nerd keeps track of stuff like this?

Hmm, not to disappoint you, but I think it's been done before. Threads are deleted once they're a certain "age", so the total number may vary both ways...

In fact, I posted a topic landmark myself a few years ago before being gently corrected that this was not actually the first time we'd hit that number.

Yep. We've hit 20,000 topics about seven times since I got here, I think.

Dude, you're old!
Posted by kojabu (Member # 8042) on :
Wait how do you know that?
Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :
Because every time it happens, someone posts a "20,000 Threads" post.
Posted by kojabu (Member # 8042) on :
how do they know it in the first place

Back at the page where you select either "Books, Films, Food and Culture" or "Discussions About Orson Scott Card" it lists the number of topics (re: threads) for each forum.

Not to mention the fact that we really only discuss 4 major topics here...we reallt the rest are pretty much copies.
If you took out Religion, Homosexuality, politics, and Firefly, wthere would only be 10 topic left, and all of them would be fluff.
