"Avada Kadavra!"

*dies*

It looks so awesome!

EDIT: I like the way everything's kind of growing larger. It seems like the castle and the lake and everything from the first movie has doubled in size. It makes everything look much more universal and important... like it's the world.

Oh my goodness, I can't wait!

wow, I can't wait

Ahh I can't get it to work on this computer!

Must. Watch. Now.

[Big Grin]

Yay!

Between this and the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, I think movies this winter will make me happy.

Well -- it worked better for me in IE than in Firefox, unfortunately.

I'm going to have to start budgeting more money for movies -- there are several good ones I want to see.

And this one looks very cool.

I still don't know that I buy the actress playing Fleur as the irresistible temptress that a part-veela is supposed to be, but I can suspend disbelief for that.

Posted by Glenn Arnold (Member # 3192) on :

You practically have to page through the trailer one framed at a time to see everything that's in there. did anyone catch Harry's wand reproducing the Dark Mark, or Dumbledore pulling the memory out of his temple with his wand?

Is this the same one that was posted a month ago with French subtitles? (I can't watch it at work.) [Frown]

No, this isn't the same one you posted Narnia, this one is quite a bit longer.

I don't remember the delegation from Beauxbatons being entirely female. Did I miss something in the books? I mean, was there ever an indication that only females attended that school?

I remember something about boys from Beauxbatons at the Yule Ball. My mom is borrowing my copy of GOF right now, so I can't check. [Razz]

Don't care for the music. But it is cool.

It does look like they're getting better. Although once again I disagree with one of the major character's casting-- this time Mad-Eye.

I still don't like Ron's hair. The rest of it I'm looking forward to.

Wow! I'm very impressed with the prospect of this movie. They seem to be getting better and better. I can't wait for it to hit. November is shaping up to look good. HP movie, Xbox 360 and A Feast for Crows. Seriously, I need to win the lotto or something.

Posted by Glenn Arnold (Member # 3192) on :

I don't know that I disagree with the casting of madeye, I disagree with the make-up, and the design of his eye.

His skin should be almost inhuman, like Kevin Spacey's chest in "Pay it Forward." His eye should be in his head, and should almost never track with his other eye, like it's got a mind of it's own.

I like Ron's hair fine, particularly because it's so terrible. And Yeah, I never got the idea that Hogwarts was the only co-ed school of the three.

Posted by Glenn Arnold (Member # 3192) on :

I also don't like the fact that Sirius looks like an Efreeti while he's talking to Harry through the fire. And I still really dislike the new Dumbledore. That's a casting issue.

Posted by Book (Member # 5500) on :

I dunno, the scars around his face look crazy.

And I've liked this Dumbledore more than Harris. Harris seemed... frail. Very, very, very frail.

Posted by Shanna (Member # 7900) on :

Mad-Eye Moody: A man who is terrified of being poisoned would not be that round. But I heard great things from the screening so maybe he'll win me over. I don't think the eye is big enough. I was quite hooked on his appearance as Grand-Pre draws him.

Dumbledore: I love the new Dumbledore. The wardrobe guy is dressing him alittle too shabby but I like the energy he brings to the part.

Sirius: I hate the face in the embers. I always thought of it more as a reflection in the flames. like water.

The schools: I don't remember the schools being all-male or all-female either but its not that big of a deal, I guess.

Pensieve: Looks just like I imagined it. Like silvery thread...very canon.

Other stuff.

The long hair looks terrible. Harry's dribbling looks...awkward. Cho is adorable, go her!

I don't know why the directors love shipping H/Hr so much. Love-triangles with the trio need to stop now!

The Hagrid/Maxime shot is adorable. Even if she does look like Frankenfurt.

I love the overall look of this movie. Its got Cuaron's cool, dark tones and Columbus' bright, golden tones. I always felt that the Hogwarts universe provided scenes that were both very light and very dark and that the castle would reflect it. One minutes its all dark corridors and the next its the glowing candles at meals. The fact that the lighting now reflects the mood of individual scenes is nice. Its hard to look at the Yule Ball scenes and not be amazed. Or the dark maze...perfectly creepy.

I'm very excited for this movie. They can make all the changes they want. After Cuaron dropping the explanation of the Marauders in POA, nothing can piss me off more.

I always pictured the heads talking via Floo powder as just...heads. Amos Diggory takes toast in his mouth - the implication was they come partially through the fire.

It should look pretty cheesy, I think.

Posted by Glenn Arnold (Member # 3192) on :

I liked the fact that Harris was frail, it highlighted the fact that his power comes from his intelligence, not his body. He is 150 years old after all.

Also, Harris could act. It might be interpreted as his frailness, but he always seemed to be holding something in reserve, like he knew more than he was saying, but just feeding us what we needed to know. That's critical to Dumbledore's character. He also had wit, this guy just plays dumb, like he's clueless. "What worked?"

This new guy comes on too strong. He doesn't seem comfortable in the role, so he's overcompensating by acting tough. It's going to make it really hard when he confronts Voldemort in the Ministry, because the actor won't be able to step up his performance.

If you look at the way Ian Mckellen played Gandalf, you'll see that he kept some strength in reserve. Most of the time he tried to be simple and earnest, human. Even tired from time to time. That gave him the full range of his strength when he needed to show that he was indeed a powerful wizard. Special effects helped, but without the acting it would have been nothing but flash, and no substance.

Thats what I always imagened too. Like Floo power but only part of the body and you never exit. Or like sticking your head out a window but only the window is fire.

When it comes to Harris, its important to remember that he HATED playing Dumbledore and only did it for his grandchildren. His negativity read through for me. He seemed to be going through the motions.

Posted by Evie3217 (Member # 5426) on :

Is it just me or does anyone else remember that the flames when Sirius was talking to Harry with the FLoo Powder was green? For some reason I always thought of it that way. Please tell me I'm not crazy!

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is all.

And Voldemort! Looks awesome! Though I don't think his eyes are red-glowy enough in the frames. Other than that, this has been one of the best nights I've had in a long time. Now if only I had something to eat...

No, I remember that was well, I think... [Big Grin]

Ewww! Eww! I think they got Voldie right, yay! Yeah, I dunno about Fleur looking that . . . normal. She should be one of those people who are so beautiful you just stare at them and can't stop. Instead she's just really pretty. And she doesn't look cocky enough. But - I AM SO EXCITED!!! WHY IS NOVEMBER SO FAR AWAY???? *sigh* Ok.

I don't think that they're shipping Harry and Hermione so much as trying to portray the difference between their relationship and the Hermione/Ron relationship. Harry and Hermione are so comfortable with hugs etc because they don't have those kinds of feelings for each other. The only time we see Ron and Hermione touch it's awkward unless it's a very emotional scene. [Blushing]

Posted by sarcasticmuppet (Member # 5035) on :

PS it's in the canon! Hermione, in a fit of worried emotion, hugs Harry at least twice in GoF (and even kissed him, if I'm not very much mistaken) AND Rita writes that they are an item.

Posted by andi330 (Member # 8572) on :

Yup! In the books, Harry and Hermione have always been more comfortable with physical touch. Rowling wrote it that way because Harry and Hermione have never entertained even the idea that they would ever be more than just friends.

Posted by Shanna (Member # 7900) on :

I get the canon side of the argument. I'm cool with that. But its been played up in the previous movies and people who've screened the movies have said that its emphasized more than it should be. The real triangle should be with Ron and Viktor. Its late, but I can't remember Ron ever being jealous of Harry's "relationship" with Hermione. If they wanted to accent Ron's behavior towards Hermione, all they need is Krum.

WOW. The trailer makes it look like they've finally found the right director!

Now hopefully the film itself will live up to the trailer... November is too far away!! [Wall Bash]

Although I also am not too thrilled about Moody's eye - it should be in his head, like Glenn said. But maybe they had to do it that way since he gets so much screen time, and CGI-ing it would've been too complicated?? ...Bah, no it wouldn't, they just did it that way to be ostentatious! [Grumble]

Oh well, I still can't wait to see it!! [Big Grin]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I'm more irritated by Moody not being gaunt than his eye.

I can deal with the eye bit. I wonder how hard it would be to replicate properly with makeup and CG. The same with Fleur. The rest looks amazing.

No he didn't.

quote:
If you start worrying about approval, you're going to get it wrong. Dumbledore is possibly the easiest part in the entire book because it's so well written. It's all done for you, and I think I avoided the temptation of saying, "Well this is Richard Harris's Dumbledore." I didn't want to do that because the part was already created, all I wanted to do as an actor was to embody it, and let it speak for itself.
quote:
I thought the script was wonderful if they could pull it off, which they did. The thing that slightly worried me is: I hate commitment of any kind - that's why I have two ex-wives! If David [Heyman, producer] and Chris [Columbus, director] decide to do the seven novels, I have to do all seven - and that's what scared me. I'd have to get their permission to do something else. I'm a bit rebellious by nature, and I found that rather difficult to handle. While this was all floating around the family, my granddaughter called me and said: "If you don't do Dumbledore, I'll never speak to you again." I guess that was enough.

How do you cope with the weight of expectation on the film?

I don't think about it. If you start worrying about approval, you're going to get it wrong. Dumbledore is possibly the easiest part in the entire book because it's so well written. So have you read the books?

I haven't, even today I haven't read them. Not because they're not grand, I know they're great. I love the script, but I don't read fiction, it's as simple as that. There's more fiction in my life than in books, so I don't bother with them.

um, am I missing something?

No worries, this series just keeps getting better and better - on the page and on the stage... err... screen.

The international trailer.

It's not quite as hard hitting as the American trailer, but worth watching.
