My final is due at 6.00PM and I need to finish my final, thing is, I don't know how to finish it because I can't think of anything else to do with it and its incomplete. The assignment was making a collage using any amount of items in just one color. I am using silver and I know I am half way done but I again, don't know how to finish it! She says she wants a minimum of 20 different things. Here are what I have used so far:

-Tinsel
-coins
-aluminum foil
-Kisses wraps
-silver sharpie
-china paper
-glittery gel
-wood
-cd.

I really need help on this. Seriously, its my FINAL and if I get a bad grade, I may flunk the entire class. My grade isn't bad, I have 89%, but the final is a MAYOR MAYOR portion of my grade and may bump it down to a C+. A C+ will make my eyes bleed.

I hope that when you call, the Mayor will come to your aid [Smile]

Why is it that I have never had any ridiculous finals like make a collage? Mine are just boring old tests.

silver things near me right now:

nail clippers, spoon, staples, picture frame, prong from an electrical plug, keys

-staples (don't cut yourself)
-key ring?

*continues to think*

silver crayon?

silverware?

jewelry?

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

There are lots of metal things that are silver in color - paper clips, staples, safety pins, tacks, wire, solder, jewelry etc. What about silver colored plastic things (my cell phone and one of my pens are silver, for example)?

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

I've gotten C+'s before, and my eyes never bled. Though maybe if they had, I would've worked harder to avoid getting any more C+'s. [Wink]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Hmmm. Silver things within my sight: a pen, wire, beads, batteries, scissors, cd player.

That's it, sorry.

the cap on my sharpie is silver, but how do I keep the sharpie from drying?

Silver things near me and not already mentioned:
paper clips
pop can tabs
needles
safety pins
scissors
York Peppermint Patty wrappers
whistle

(yeah I'm at work... what of it? LOL)

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

You don't. You donate your sharpie to the cause.

Food packaging -- pop tarts packaging, bags for crackers, the inside of pringles cans, soda cans, etc.

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

What about screws, bolts, nuts, washers, nails, etc?

Posted by Zalmoxis (Member # 2327) on :

Also: Do you have a fabric and/or crafts store near you? You could get a lot of stuff for low cost.

Posted by starLisa (Member # 8384) on :

Take some kind of canned food, and tear the label off. If that's too heavy, open the can, being very careful with the lid, and use the lid. Maybe put tape around the edges.

Do you have nails and/or screws? Would a DVD count as something different from a CD?

Try a cotton ball. If someone objects, point out that it represents a cloud, and that every cloud has... well, you know.

If you have an old camera or phone you can take apart for parts, some of those are bound to be silver.

Also, mirrors.

Posted by Altáriël of Dorthonion (Member # 6473) on :

I was thinking about the mirror, but I don't know how to cut it without cutting myself.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Don't. Go to the drugstore and get a little one for a couple of bucks instead.

Posted by Altáriël of Dorthonion (Member # 6473) on :

the dremel is that can? I'm not sure Michael's carries that, besides I already spent 20 of my mom's cash on this, I haven't been paid from work yet. I don't plan on spending more than that on this. Money is starting to be an issue with me now...

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

No, that's not a dremel. That's a can of spray paint.

*suspicious look* You're having us on, aren't you?

A dremel is a cutting tool. The first time I ever saw one, my dad was using it. I walked in and he said, "Hey, look at this, Anne, it cuts through metal!" I am afraid of them.

Toothpaste tubes.

Not trying to be pissy, but I'm just curious. . . why is this different from any other 'do your own homework" thread? The point of an art class is the student being creative. If someone asked for help on an essay, they'd be jumped on within the first five posts. Does Hatrack writ large feel this is different because it's not an "academic" assignment?

</devil's advocate>

Posted by Altáriël of Dorthonion (Member # 6473) on :

Oh, that's because I have an artist's block. Just look at my "I need psi help" thread. yeah, I feel pretty messed up, I don't feel it so much , I just a little something to give me ideas. I'm doing the most difficult work wich is actually finding and arranging these things on the paper in a way that they portray something.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

No disrespect to you, AoD, but what I'm really interested in is the answers of the people who've been helping you, particularly regarding if they're treating it differently because it's an art assignment. [Smile]

Actually, education in general is moving toward acceptance of collaborative effort. It's a hard thing to evalulate for a grade, which is (I think) why historically we've told students to do their own work, but collaborative work habits are very useful skills to have, and help bypass a lot of the pitfalls of education, such as the teacher to student ratio.

First of all, let me thank Kabob Queen, you're always there when I need you, you soothe me in a thunderstorm and are like a mother figure for Hatrack. Next, I'd like to thank the following people, Parsimony, Unicorn Whisper, Farm Girl, Ludosti, Goody Screwdriver [Razz] , Zalmoxis, star Lisa, Beren One Hand, Tom Davidson, pH, Treason, Noemon, Mandy M, Beverly, and yes, El Jay. Thank you all!!!!!!!
For those that I didn't mention, I'm sorry! I'm sure I forgot your name! But Thank you too!

ElJay, I was wondering that while reading the thread as well. I did come up with one possibility (besides the fact that people were having lots of fun with the challenge [Wink] ). Sounds like even after people gave AoD ideas, she still had to figure out how to make them work in her collage.

If someone asked for that sort of help on homework (like how to learn how to do a certain type of math problem), lots of us would give links, neh?

The part of a pencil that holds the eraser on.

My remote control for the TV.

The metal part of a floppy disk.

A push pin.

A colored pencil.

The foil seal on the inside of a condiment bottle.

Silverware.

Your dog's nails are silver? Cool!

Can AoD have one for her project? [Big Grin]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I agree. We just gave her ideas of objects to use, she still had to compose her own collage. If I threw all those things together, it would probably look really bad. She put them together carefully and made art. That's the difference. [Smile]

BTW, I have a special affection for you, Alty. That is why you are the ONLY one who may call me "Kabob Queen." [Wink]

Posted by Sharpie (Member # 482) on :

Sure -- anyone can have my dog's nails. I see no reason to keep hoarding them...

Posted by Altáriël of Dorthonion (Member # 6473) on :

I just came back from school guys, my teacher liked the project! She thought it was kind of hard to understand at first though, kind of cluttered, she put it. She took two points off this 15 point assignment. Oh well, that sucks ,but at least it didn't harm my grade that much. THANKS GUYS!!!

Posted by Rappin' Ronnie Reagan (Member # 5626) on :

the final is only worth 15 points?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Is your grade out of a total of 100? Or even 50? (I had a class like that-- each assignment was, like, 5 points.)

Posted by Katarain (Member # 6659) on :

Can we get a picture?

Posted by Altáriël of Dorthonion (Member # 6473) on :

I'll try to get a picture, but since its all silver, I'm sure I'll have a problem with glare. Anyhoot, my class grade WAS out of 100, so 15 points was worth a lot.

Posted by Speed (Member # 5162) on :

I say you build a bomb with a mercury trigger. Or maybe just an aluminum bowl full of mercury for your teacher to inhale and absorb through the skin, just for giving you such an irritating final.

Posted by Teshi (Member # 5024) on :

EDIT: Bother. Second page.

EDIT: Just wait until things are worth 40% or 50% or more of your grade! That's when 15% projects look tiny.

[Wink]

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

I can kinda see that sort of interpretation, rivka, but I'd tend away from it based on the fact that the teacher told them they couldn't just spray-paint items the right color. To me, this means that part of the assignment is the figuring out what to use. Artistic thinking outside the box. Otherwise, why would she have specified how many different types of items needed to be used? Except for to keep the projects from being boring. [Wink]

Anyway, no big deal on way or the other. . . I just thought it was curious.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

You have a point. [Smile]

So I will simply comment again that Hatrackers were having fun. [Big Grin]
