It makes no sense to try to train our students how to think logically, then present them with nonsensical concepts such as 'irrational' and 'imaginary' numbers."

[Embarrassed]

It's as true as the cruiseship disaster film Poseidon Adventure being shown onboard as the Titanic hit the iceberg.
As true as Sing a Song of Six Pence originally being a recruiting song for pirates.
As true as Mr.Ed was actually a female zebra.

sigh... Edit: Telperion, you are such a skeptic.

Oh, good. I did check to make sure that was the real snopes page, because something didn't seem right about it.

You know, I still have trouble dividing decimals through long division. [Frown]

Decimals, fractions, and the like were my favorite part of arithmetic. Especially dividing fractions. I loved dividing fractions. Big ones.

While we're at it, time to get rid of this "non real" number nonsense. [Wink]

Phew! I read it and thought, "Oh no, Snopes is falling down on the job, this article is clearly written tongue-in-cheek!" But I couldn't get that "lost" link to work. For some reason the link worked for me when you posted it here!

I could see holding out on imaginary numbers, but fractions and decimals? That'd be crazy. Good thing it's a joke.

There's another good clue right up front that it's fake. If this had really been done 6 years ago we would have heard about it from plenty of other sources by now.

Still, a prank in the pages of Snopes is the best sort of prank there is. I think I'll send this page to some of my coworkers. [Evil]

*snickers*

All those snopes articles made me wonder. I thought this was funny and wanted to see who'd check it out.
