That's it. I just don't think I want to.

I'm going to finish the semester, of course, but I doubt I'll register for classes for next semester.

I'm doing fine, I have an A average in every class. The workload isn't the problem. I just don't like it and I don't know what I'm going to do after I finish so I don't feel right spending the family's money on tuition if I don't have a clear goal in mind.

I will say this - had I not gone back it would have been an ogre lurking in my past all my life. I would have always regretted not trying, at least. Now I can put it behind me and say "Yes, I can finish my degree, I can do it, when the time is right," and move on.

I may go back again when the kids are a little older. But right now, there is so much going on in my kids' lives, and I want to focus on them. I wanted to spend more time at the school volunteering and chaperoning field trips and already this year I've had to turn down an invitation to chaperone because it fell on the same day as when I had class. Not to mention that all of them are so involved in things like dance and gymnastics, I can't imagine having a harder workload in school or a job and still be able to get everything done and everybody where they need to be. Our finances were out of control because hubby and I have been so busy, we haven't kept up with things the way we should so I sat down and balanced the accounts and paid every bill and it felt good to focus on my home and family again. I think I can find better uses for our money right now than tuition.

I needed to go back to school, to prove to myself that I could. And, yes, I probably will finish the degree, but not now. Now my kids are still kids and still need me.

Plus, there's this writing thing I'd like to give a go once more, too. [Wink]

(((hug))) Maybe when the time is right the school won't be so stupid, too, huh?

When you are ready, and know what your goals are, the credits that you have earned from this semester will still be there for you to transfer. So it's not a waste.

Good luck with everything.

It's good that you were able to figure that out, I'm sure it can be hard, I know it was for my mom (she was working on a bachelors from when I was 3 to 7). GOod luck, finish these classes, and do what works best for you. (basically I"m saying that it's nice you don't feel like you have to finish because you started)

Belle.... don't worry about a thing. You are doing what is right for you and your family, and that is all that matters. Be proud of what you've done so far with the classes you've taken. You've set yourself up with a pretty good foundation for when you start again.

I once talked to one of my professors about grad school, and he said that he had to try it out just because he would have regretted not trying. But he added that he in hindsight, he could have been perfectly happy without the PhD.

It sounds like you've made the decision that will make all of you happiest. [Smile]

Belle, the classes weren't wasted in the least. The credits will transfer later, but you also learned a lot more about where you need to be and where you are happiest today.

You're ahead of a lot of the people you were taking those classes with. [Wink]

Belle, I think it's great that you are so comfortable making these decisions -- and so aware of what you and your family need. [Smile]

Kudos to you for going back (and for finishing out the semester -- it wouldn't be "of course" to everyone!). And kudos to you for deciding that school is not where you want to spend your resources right now.

If/when it is again, it will still be there. [Big Grin]
