I was just wondering if you guys have read Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. I heard it was an exquisite book but the subject matter was pretty controversial. What do you guys think?

Good book, although I wasn't blown away. It's about an old man and his relations with a young girl. It's not ever explicit, but it can make you very angry.

You should read it because it's one of those books that's good to say you've read it and it's not a difficult or boring read.

Remember when you're reading it that Humbert Humbert is telling the story and he likes to spin a yarn.

I found it to be incredibly riveting and well written. That said, I still haven't finished it (although I've started it about 5 times) because I always feel a bit too nauseated ("it's about an old man and his relations with a young girl"). Very powerful. Give it a try, in any event.

My tolerance gets higher every time I try again. I don't know if that's a good thing or not...

It's on my TBR list but pretty far down...
